Re: Not sure if this was done before - are you pro-life or pro-choice?
why can't the terms be:
pro-choice
or
con-choice
sounds weird, i know.
but really, do I want politicians telling me what I can or cannot do with MY body? no.
I am pro-choice.

I don't get how people can change their views
If you are pro-choice- but become a mom and then say you are pro-life- wouldn't that mean you were pro-life the whole time?
This is just my opinion, but ask anyone on the pregnancy board and I'm sure 9 out of 10 people will tell you they felt an instant connection to their babies as soon as they got their BFP. Women who are trying to get pregnant dont think of their babies as "tissue" or "products of conception" they think of them as their son or daughter, they have nicknames for them. I think thats the reason why many women "change their views" on the abortion issue.
Yes I am pro-life and I believe that life does begin at conception, and if a friend of mine were in that situation that she had to choose abortion, I would be beside her. I stood beside a friend who had 5, including one at 5 months.

forgive me if I am mistaken,
but this to me sounds like you would PERSONALLY chose life but wouldn't take the CHOICE FROM your friend, which is what MY PERSONAL definition of being pro-CHOICE is.
having a personal belief, but allowing others to have the same freedom to have a belief of their own.

It is VERY rare to have an abortion after 9 months.

Re: Not sure if this was done before - are you pro-life or pro-choice?
A lot has to do with when you believe life starts.
I could never abort...there is a heartbeat at 5 weeks and to me, stopping a heart from beating is ending a life.
And i DO like the term pro life. There is nothing wrong with it. It means you are in favor of keeping a life from ending.
And i do agree with other posters...MOST women have an instant connection to their babies as soon as they see the first sono or when they find out they are pregnant which is why lots of people feel differently when pregnant.
HOWEVER......this is a VERY tough situation to argue. While I am pro life, there are rare circumstances where I think abortion should be allowable..in cases where young children become pregnant through rape/incest or when a baby is severely malformed and has no chance at survival.
You can call that belief hypocritical and I agree, it is. But we are all hypocrites in one area or another and I guess this is mine!

Again, I completely agree with Ophelia.
The morning after my BFP I knew my baby was a girl, I called her by her name and my life was forever changed. BUT I was 33, married, stable and ready for a family. At this point in my life the only way I would have an abortion would be if my life was in danger, especially now that I have a DD to live for.
I'm still 100% pro-choice. I 100% CHOSE to keep my baby and in the future my choice will be the same. But I respect YOUR RIGHT to do what you want with your body.

Right- I understand and respect that. BUT for those who were pro choice BEFORE TTC-and Pro-life after- would you have made the choice to NOT continue a pregnancy that was not planned nor wanted (meaning- you are not ready) when you were, say, 17?
I'm really just curious- no one has to pay me any attention or answer.

She asked how can people who were pro-choice suddenly become pro-life after they had children. I believe that abortion has a lot to do with how people see whats going on with their bodies. Women who want their babies refer to them as babies where as women who choose abortions see the contents of their uterus as "tissue" and "product of conception". I think any woman who has had a baby would feel differently about abortion after going through a pregnancy

for me, abortion wasn't an option for me, but I guess I was lucky that i was never in a situation where I had to make a choice. Not having an abortion was my choice, doesn't make me pro-life.

Well, I guess I'm the 1 in 10, so I guess I don't get the choice, since I'm in the minority? I love my kids to death, but did not have an instant connection to them while I was pregnant. It happened much later - after they were born.

Isn't it virtually impossible to have an abortion after 9 months?
Pregnancy only lasts around 40 weeks, no?

I can go into the medical reasoning behind why it is a human upon conception if you would like. But what I was getting at is that we all know what the baby in the womb will be, so don't kid yourself that it's not life that is being killed.
Also, I wanted to add- although gruesome, if you saw an actual sonogram of an abortion take place, you would have a very different opinion of that "embryo". The child struggles to survive the abortion just like anyone human would a murder.
