I watched a report on this earlier today... most of the parents just said that they're kids being kids...and one said his son wasnt to blame bc he was just going along with the other kids. They said the school district was considering revoking bus privileges for the children, and the parents were angry bc that is inconvenient for them. MAYBE if they learned how to act like respectful human beings, this wouldnt be an issue. My heart broke for this poor woman.
They also said she was a recent widow, and had a child who committed suicide. She makes just over 15,000 a year to get tortured by these punks.
And that's with the incident caught on VIDEO.
I can't count the number of times I, or other teachers, or the dean have called home about bullying incidents (in middle school) and the reaction is:
"What? Not my kid?
Like the parents who sued the school district after their kids were punished for sexually harassing 7th graders who were new to a sports team. (Truth)
Dear Parents:
Yes, YOUR kid. Your kid is not exceptional. Your teenager lies (shocking). Reality check: the adults are not all conspiring against your child. Be a parent and enforce some accountability.

I was so disgusted by this.
There is a HUGE problem in our world today. It's called parents not being involved enough or helping to raise KIND children. Bullying has always existed, don't get me wrong..but there is an out of control problem today with kids/teens saying whatever the hell they want to whoever that want. It's disgusting.
GOD HELP MY CHILDREN should they EVER treat another human being like that. If i do my job correctly it will never happen. They have already been taught at this early age that you never ever say things that would hurt someone else.
And I seriously doubt any of those children were special needs. Just doesn't seem like it, sorry..MAYBE ADHD i'd believe but that is no excuse.

We live upstate not too far from this area and my DH told me that all school buses in that district have bus monitors because the neighborhood isn't so great.
I agree that it seems like parents aren't involved enough.  I sort of blame the economy - I know a lot of people that are working overtime or have taken on second and third jobs just to get by... but where does that leave their kids?

I thought it was disgusting... i saw it yesterday morning and when i found out it was upstate NY, it was even worse. I have many friends and family in the area..

Not to blame because he was going along with the other kids? Seriously??
How about teaching your children to do what is right and not be a follower?
I can still hear my mom's voice in my head saying "If Jane jumped off the brooklyn bridge, would you jump too?"
That poor woman... I hope the school does what is right and severely punish these kids.

It doesn't change my opinion in the slightest.
I only hope that they grow up either to see what horrible, despicable people they are & change their ways or to have their senior citizen asses get treated the same way.
No it does not. Especially since it was pack like..they had sense enough. They are future POS.

If my children EVER were videotaped treating another human being like that I don't even know what I would do. I couldn't even look at them. I would be so ashamed and pissed off at myself that I raised such a careless, horrible mean little punkass. And for the idiot who said his kid was just going along with it, well you should just be sterilized. How about teaching our kids to go against the grain, fight for the underdog etc. Ugh whole thing makes me SICK!

This video brought me to tears!! It is DISGUSTING how children act these days!! My DD will be raised to say Please and Thank you..to say Your Welcome! To RESPECT the elderly or anyone who may look different than them! And if I EVER catch them disrespecting anyone like that..I will beat their Ass!! They would be grounded for the summer, they would be made to apologize and I will make them do her yard work EVery week!! And thats just the half of it!!! I am so glad people are donating for her to retire! May god bless her!!

I can't like this enough. That video is disgusting. That behavior comes straight from HOME. Not the teachers, schools...NO...Home.

I see what you're saying but I just don't think that gives these kids a free pass to act this way. there are plenty of people who have issues, even kids, and not all of them act like this. There needs to be consequences for these actions PERIOD.
Anyone know what happened to these kids?

While I do think its an excessive amount of money, I am glad she is receiving it and I hope she lives very comfortably for the rest of her life. I couldn't even watch the whole video, my heart broke for that woman, I can't imagine if I was her and hearing it. I can only hope that these kids are held accountable for their actions and not just by their apologies which to me, are crap. If I EVER talked to anyone like that, let a lone a senior, I wouldn't see the light of day for my whole summer vacation, if not longer. And if this was my kid talking to someone like that, I would have them do chores all summer long with an allowance...which would then be donated to this woman in the end.

They KNEW what they were doing, how they were making her feel and what they were saying.

They are a product of their environment. Their parents have the "not my child" attitude, and if they keep it up they are in for it later on.
If they can't feel compassion for this woman because "kids will be kids", then they deserve every bit of stress these little assholes will put them through as they get older.
My daughter better never do something like this, but then again I will raise her with enough respect to know better, and if god forbid she doesn't she will be punished in a way that she will know better for the next time.
Shame on these kids and their parents.

"you're so ugly your kid should kill themselves." Her son took his life 10 years ago.
That actually made me cry. That's heartbreaking. I can only imagine how she felt hearing that. Ugh! I honestly hope those little monsters feel some remorse now & have learned a lesson from this. I would be sick if my kids ever, ever behaved even remotely close to that manner.

I wrote letters to the school principle and the district because I really think these disrespectful brats need to be punished for what they did to that woman. maybe if they are suspended from the bus for a period of time next school term then maybe their parents can teach them respect while they drive them to school everyday omg I am fuming.

"If" this parent is taking accountability for their child being a POS in this case, then yes I agree with him. I do not think just bc a kid acts like a POS that the family as a whole should get death threats...WTH?!?! I think the important part is that the parent accepts responsibility an teaches the child how to act in the future. Not for everyone to threaten their family. Also, where the heck was the bus driver during this? The bus should have been stopped and the cops called. Thankfully it was videotaped.

I wo'nt watch the video. I know I would find it very disturbing.
As a parent, I can tell you how important it is to get involved with this as early as possible. In pre-k, I was told my daughter was involved in bullying another kid. I thought it was a small issue- like coloring on someone else's paper. So what I did is bought her an ice cream, sat with her, and spoke with her about bullying and how it is important to be kind and nice to everyone. I used examples from her own life on how she felt when kids did things like that to her. Because it was not hostile, she was very engaged and receptive.
The next morning I met with the head teacher and DD who was there during the incident. I found out my DD was not the ringleader (which I originally thought), but her BFF (E) was and they were bullying a kid with two moms about not having a dad. I was appalled! PRE-K!!!???!!! With the teacher, I explained to DD that (1) you never make fun of people's family and (2) if someone is teasing your friend, not only do you not join in but you also stand up for your friend.
I didn't get mad. I kept my cool. I just told her it was unacceptable behavior from then on.
I also stopped letting her play with E. I called the principal of the kindergarten and made sure that E was separated from DD. Everytime DD wanted a playdate with E I asked DD, is she nice to everyone all the time? Its been a year and the answer has never been yes- so she has not been allowed to have a playdate with E. E is now moving- so that problem is solved.
I am proud of how vigilant I was when this started young. The other day, a mom came up to me at a party and told me that DD was so kind to another child who didn't know anyone and went up to the other child and introduced herself and included her in all the games.
If anyone every accused my kid of being mean, I would turn around and have a big issue, with MY KID!! That behavior is unacceptable and I know I taught her that at a young age. I hope it continues as she grows up. But the second she steps out of line and stops being kind- especially to elders, my DD will need to get a reeducation of what is acceptable behavior in MY home- and being unkind is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
