Not that I am excusing their behavior, but bus monitors are in buses for kids with special needs. These kids are probably emotionally disturbed. I work with kids like these, and they say really messed up things for a reaction.
I have watched reports on this all day.
Nothing was said that these kids were special needs. If they were, I'm sure that would've been reported right away. Either from the school or the monitor.
And they just talked to one of the dads, who was shocked and embarrassed by the way his kid acted. If he was a special needs child, I'm sure the father would have said something.
These were not special needs kids.
They were RUDE kids. Plain and simple.

I don't even know what exactly constitutes special needs or emotionally disturbed but these kids were clearly wrong and IMO they are a bunch of a-holes. They were 13-14 right? That's old enough to know better.
I know I will get bashed for this but I'm sorry I don't believe that everyone under the age of 18 is precious and should be told how wonderful they are when they are clearly not.

This video makes me want to find these kids and rip their faces off. I can't even imagine someone I love going through that, especially at her age. Repulsive.

I am glad the dad was pissed. These kids were working as a pack to impress each other with their insults to her. They were showing off to each other at her expense. I hope this haunts them eternally, a la Flatliners.

I couldn't bring myself to watch more than a few seconds so just a question. When the kids were taunting her, what did she say back to them? Did she just sit an take it or try to defend herself in some way?

i've worked in 5 schools across LI, and bus monitors are NOT just for kids who are special ed..

I have worked in the ones that only pay for monitors for special Ed students!!!

They may be hated right now but what they need are CONSEQUENCES. They need to learn that their actions have consequences, and not just detention or summer school or bullying education. If people know their names, they know they are hated and they hear the threats and nastiness given to them the way they gave it to her, maybe they will understand. I am not wishing them harm, but I think they need to feel fear to understand this.

I'm just curious - it they were special needs students, does it make a difference in anyone's opinion?
It doesn't change my opinion in the slightest.
I only hope that they grow up either to see what horrible, despicable people they are & change their ways or to have their senior citizen asses get treated the same way.

Being hated is fine but a true consequence should be getting into trouble with the school or the law, imo.

The key to this whole thing is consequences. It needs to set a precedent going forward that bad behavior will not be tolerated. PERIOD!
Maybe they should go on The Today Show & publicly apologize to this woman in front of America. Then, go pick up trash on the parkway.

I'd revert back to indentured servitude & give that poor woman those children to do housework for her, her neighbors & her friends.
Then they wear electronic devices so she can zap them if they get out of line (This is a perfect example why I can never be a judge. I support cruel & unusual punishment.)

There was a SN kid who lived on my block until I was about 7 or 8. He was older. My mom always tells me that his mother taught him how to act, what to say and what not to say and he had consequences that worked even though his needs were severe. I only remember bits and pieces about him.
The monitor could have bene on the bus for one kid. We really do not know and this is all speculation.
I don't think that we can attribute this entirely to parents or to modern times. Kids that age go along with the crowd. I was hit/almost beaten up on the bus once. My mom spoke to the other girl's mother and she was very clear that she would not condone her daughter's behavior. After one phone call she never spoke to me again and her friends hardly did either. I wanted nothing to do with her so this was fine.
A girl on my block was a bully but there were circumstances beyond anyone's control. Her father had a severe stroke when we were young. There were 4 kids in the family and her mom tried to tend to her husband at home and take care of the kids. I was very friendly with her until she became a bully. I hated her for a long time but I don't know how it was when she got home. When we were friends she always wanted to be at my house and that now stands out in my mind.
I think that the parents of those kids on the bus do have to step in ASAP.

I watched a report on this earlier today... most of the parents just said that they're kids being kids...and one said his son wasnt to blame bc he was just going along with the other kids. They said the school district was considering revoking bus privileges for the children, and the parents were angry bc that is inconvenient for them. MAYBE if they learned how to act like respectful human beings, this wouldnt be an issue. My heart broke for this poor woman.
They also said she was a recent widow, and had a child who committed suicide. She makes just over 15,000 a year to get tortured by these punks.
