I love all the Sanctimommy's on this thread! I like my job, been there over 11 years....yesterday was my first day back after TWO SOLID WEEKS OFF! and guess what? I was praying yesterday for a snow day today and pretty sure we will have one tomorrow too! While I love my job , I love being home more. For the people complaining they can't go to their jobs, I feel bad for you. You must have miserable lives if you don't know how to do a snow day right, lol! I just got up at 9 am after staying up late watching tv. Of course I didn't drink wine though, I had a few bourbons!!!! Everybody else, enjoy your day if you got to stay home, I sure as hell am!
So I just scrolled back through the thread to see and to be honest it was only one person...so I don't see all the Sanctimommy's....only one. Everyone else disagreed.
I did however say that I don't love the fact that DD is home again after a long break. But that is because she is driving me nuts while I'm trying to work and do conference calls and we already had a fight this morning! 
Yes, I don't think anyone is arguing that it's a good thing teachers are off. I'm glad they're off. I said that schools being closed can make a bad situation worse for healthcare workers/first responders, but that's not the teachers' fault.
I doubt many teachers are partying it up and chugging wine at home......and if they are, good for them! I hope that's exactly what my DD's daycare teacher is doing, she deserves it.

Honestly - who wouldn’t be happy about a paid day off?! I don’t care what you do - day off? YES!!!
Word! I had to call out; Broadway rarely closes. And I only did because I have a sinus infection. But I'll be damned if I ain't still a wee bit happy to be watching Sofia, Dorothy, Rose and Blanche while slumming in my pajamas.

Ladies my kids are in middle and high school and yes my kids and I have come across many teachers and even assistant principals and guidance counselors who unfortunately have serious attitudes around parents and students. Some appear unhappy and like they do not like their jobs so when i see the flaunting of snow days and not wanting to be at work, as I mentioned it appears unprofessional. Thats my opinion and when you post online you may be judged even by friends and family - thats life. Its food for thought...
I never said all teachers do this or are bad or that I dont have respect for the profession.
So, relax enjoy your snow day, families and wine! Glad everyone is safe and warm!!
PS if my comments make me a sanctimommy that's your opinion and i will take it. Funny word 1st time in my 14 years of being a mom i heard of it! No need to be childish here though.

I just went back and read, you're right, only one sancitmommy! But wouldn't be fair to call out just one person, trying to be more positive in 2018! Enjoy the day everyone and stay safe if you are a first res ponder or sanitation that needs to be on the roads.

most jobs don't close, retail never closes, restaurants never close. Most people have to work on snow days.
My FB feed is full of businesses that are closed tomorrow. Restaurants, retail stores, etc. The mall closed during the last blizzard, I remember. They don't want people on the roads during a storm....then they can't plow, people get stuck, etc. In fact, I'm surprised they haven't issued a state of emergency banning non essential vehicles from the roads tomorrow like they have done in the past.
I think its rare for stores to close. I worked in retail and they never closed. More often then not they stay open.
adding: It doesnt bother me if they are off...

Well there we go. Those sons of b teachers can't rejoice in safety tomorrow in NYC so rest assured.

Right? DD JUST went back fron Xmas break. She was so happy to go back, we were all going nuts... 2 days back and she's home again. Booooo
GET MY KIDS BACK TO SCHOOL!! They watched so much tv today that I feel bad. I was doing laundry, cleaning and getting the christmas tree down. I also hate paying for my 3 year old to go to nursery school three days a week and then missing out due to snow. He only goes about 12 days a month and Im still paying for the month even if he misses out on school. We were so ready for them to go back, they need to be in school and then to have off today and tomorrow!! It sucks!
My husband works in a food store and he drove in today at 6 and we live in suffolk. He came home late this afternoon and couldn't pull into our driveway. He sat in the van across the street just watching me. I was surprised that he made it home considering how bad it was and he was on 3 parkways in this blizzard. I did not feel the need to post it on facebook. I have lots of friends who are teachers in Queens and the Bronx and I feel bad for them. They have to make that decision on whether to call out or make that trip to work. The roads will be horrible and they also have to find childcare for their own kids who go to school on the island.
