OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
So DD just turned 14 mos....she walks with her push toys, cruises like crazy, and can pull up to stand and let go for a little bit...she can obviously stand but whenever I even try to put her in standing positiong she normally wants to just get down to her knees and crawl...she will let me SOMETIMES take her hands and walk with her, she just doesn't like it bc she knows she can crawl faster...Ugh I know she's still in the "normal" range, but with her in a class full of 10-16 mos olds walking and she's the only one crawling, I'm starting to get worried. Not to mention she looks like a two year old so her crawling just looks strange

Don't stress. My DD didn't start walking until she was 14 months. It will happen really soon.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
Kids do things at their own speed. We adults like to rush it lol then regret when they are mobile It will be fine. If you have concerns mention to your Ped.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
My DD is 16 months old and still crawling too. She also cruises, pushes her shopping cart and Little Mermaid car but walk on her own... no. She just started walking with us holding one hand a few weeks ago. Her ped said she's fine for now and if at 18 months she's still not walking, we'll discuss it. She does love to talk up a storm though... (real words and baby babble). I guess she's just a lazy chatty girl like her mama!

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
My DC are almost 14 months and are in a class at little gym with 10-19 month olds and are the only ones not walking. DD will take steps and really wants to walk - I just don't think she has the courage to really do it yet. DS doesn't have much of an interest. He's able to stand on his own for a few seconds, but it you encourage him to walk towards you, he just throws himself forward and laughs. He thinks its a great game. I'm not worried. DS just started doing regular crawling a few weeks ago. THey do everything on their own time.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
DD didn't walk until she was 15 months.
She was afraid of most of her push toys because she'd fall down once she leaned on them. The first time she went to take a step on her own she was walking towards my stepmother who was sitting in the middle of the floor. DD LOOOVES her - she's probably her absolute favorite person - so for a moment she didn't care that she didn't actually know how to walk. She fell down after 2 steps, of course, but it was really the first time that she thought she could do it and I think she was about 14 months at a time.
As long as she's pulling up to stand, kicking when she's laying down and doing things that indicate she has the physical strength to eventually walk, I wouldn't worry just yet.
I know it's hard to be the only "late walker" that you know. All the kids I know IRL and most of the ones on here that are within a few months of DD's age were all walking before her (some as early as 9 months!!). But here I am just a year later and the way DD tears through my house I can't believe this was ever a concern for me!

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
It's stressful, but no worries! All of the "parenting" books (well, the one I own...) say that walking doesn't always occur in the first HALF of the second year. She still has a ways to go!

Thanks, this makes me feel better, I just can't help but worry, that every time I try to get her up to stand she immediately goes down to crawl...I want her to at least stand, but she's so full of energy that she wants to move, and she knows that she moves fastest by crawling...UGH!!! Which reminds me I need to make my 15 mos appt for her and if she's not changed by then, I'll talk to my ped and see what he says!

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
DD didn't start walking until she was 17 months. She also afraid of the push toys because they moved too fast for her. She was also the last kid in her mommy and me class to walk.
I got her walking wings to help her along and we used them everywhere. and I swear it really helped.
It will happen when it happens. As long as she is able to stand up and cruise, they rest will come in it's own time, and you will be wishing that should would crawl again.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
i wouldnt worry until she is 18 months old or she has other signs of not being able to walk, which you said she doesnt...
DS didnt walk until he was 16 months 3 days.
each child does it at their own pace.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
I really wouldn't worry. DS is a few weeks older than DD and isn't walking yet. He's the only one in his class who doesn't walk. I hoped seeing the other kids walk would encourage him to walk, but it hasn't done that yet. He cruises, walks with his push toys and walks holding my hands. He isn't confident enough to walk on his own yet. Sometimes I'll sit down in front of him and try to stand him up and encourage him to take a few steps towards me. Now, he won't even let me stand him up b/c he knows what I want him to do. He's very stubborn. They'll walk when they're ready.

Frankie's physical therapist said that the average age for walking is a very wide range- 12 to 18 months! O wouldn't worry yet!

Yup this is exactly what dd does, she doesn't want me standing her up bc she knows I'll make her work

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
Hang in there. I think the fact that she can walk/cruise with her toys is a really good sign.
My nephew had EI for gross motor skills because at 11 months he wasn't crawling, cruising, or walking.
Now at 18 months he is right back on target. Crawls, walks, runs, and talks.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
I wouldnt worry I know its easier to say then do esp when you see other kids doing it, who are the same age or younger. DS didnt walk till 16-18 months (he was a pro by 18 months). He cruised on time, pulled up to stand, walked pushing the push toys, all the other milestones, but refused to take steps by himself or while holding our hand. One day it just clicked to him and he did it. I even had a call in to EI and the week they were coming he started walking (I cancelled it since that the was the only reason I had them coming). My doctor said if he wasnt walking by 18 months then we would talk about EI. Since I was getting nervous i put the call in earlier to get the ball rolling. DS was an early talker though and also has great fine motor/self help skills (e.g fed himself early with a spoon and fork, etc) so I sort of think he put so much energy and concentration into the other areas first and walking was last on his list

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
This was DS. He didn't start until 15 months. I had so many comments from my annoying MIL. Other kids we hung out with who were younger than him were walking.
He cruised a lot, and he did use his push toy. But he crawled everywhere- and refused to "walk" holding my hands bearing weight on his legs. The ped said not to worry yet at his 15 month appt.
Well, literally out of nowhere, he took steps, on his own. It was spontaneous and not prompted by me at all. I guess he just waited until HE was ready.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking
thanks ladies, this is very reassuring, and I do know that SHE will do it on her time. She is a major major talker, and develops faster cognitively than wtih gross motor skills. It's just so hard to see all the other kids in her class and around her walking...
