Its ok to ask for it in a Venti cup. It is not ok to say that there was not enough in it. Chat Icon

That's why I said the workers will think they are cheap too. Even if they say "it's OK" to get a venti cup, they are programmed to say "yes" or "it's OK" to any customer demand. Not doing this would lead to sure termination.

I was in Starbucks and I overheard a woman ask for a grande coffee in a venti cup. She then proceeded to complain they put "too little" in the cup.Chat Icon Ok or not ok?

Asking for a bigger cup and getting the size coffee you ordered: OK

Asking for a bigger cup and asking for a bigger size serving that you paid for: NOT OK

The good thing is, (and it's rare I would find this in a company these days) they have great customer service.

I can count more than 5 times when I have gotten a free complimentary pass for any free coffee if my coffee was wrong or if it took to long to get to me on the drive-thru window.

DH is HUGE on Starbucks, and even has their membership card and stuff. He gets coupons a lot. Also, he has an app on his phone that they scan each time he buys a coffee for points (same as the card, i think)

When I started reading this thread, I was definitely on the side of "What's the big deal?" But after reading everyone's opinions, I definitely see what the issue is, and agree that Starbucks should charge by cup-size, not by coffee amount.

This is what I'm starting to think too. When you order a grande and walk out of the store with more than could fit in a grande cup (be it coffee, milk, whatever), that is a little bothersome to me.

I used to work at starbucks when I was in high school and always thought the people who asked for a smaller sized coffee in a larger cup were super cheap. This is definitely not the norm. Everyone else would ask for enough space on top for extra milk.

I love how they call people 'disgustomers'.

I may be stealing that.

Well congrats Sbux consumers! They are upping the price on the Venti size coffee and the drinks that are more labor intensive to make! It was on the news this a.m.! Enjoy!Chat Icon

I figured this much and I know I'm not alone on this whether people here want to say it or not. Like I said I asked for this a few times myself and in the back of my mind I said to myself (wow I can pay for a Grande to get Venti size).

Then I said to myself... wow I am being ULTRA cheap and literally a PITA customer. Chat Icon I can't bring myself to ask for this anymore.

I like the opinion many of them have for their VIA instant coffee. I'd repeat what they would say here, but it would likely get censored. Chat Icon

I wouldn't do it, but if they give you the same amount of coffee, then who cares?

Sbux is too strong for me, so I always have to dump out some of my coffee to put in more milk. That's why I always look to see if there is a Dunkin close by. Chat Icon

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?

I say not ok. As a McDonald's worker we had to use the right cups for all beverages because they were inventoried daily to determine type of drinks sold. It would make sense if Starbucks did the same.

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?

It's so funny that this morning I went to my local Starbucks and saw this happen.... guy comes in and asked for a Tall in a Grande cup...and they gave it to him without him asking twice... so I ask the cashier if they get that alot. She tells me that they're required (least at that Starbucks) to do it if the customer asks.. but to give the lesser amount of the beverage.

Also she writes down the size if they ask her to do this ...so if a customer asked for a Grande in a Venti cup on the Venti cup she'd write Grande...which is good so they don't get taken for a ride on refills.

As someone who worked at starbucks for many years this is totally fine! People do this all of the time. Most of the time it's because people want to add extra milk and not waste the coffee, we used to suggest it also. Refills aren't an issue because they are a set price for all refills (used to be 54cents, not sure what it is now-as long as you drink it in the store).

What I used to think was nervy was people ordering an iced venti americano with no water and then fill up the drink with milk from the condiment stand (basically would be an iced quad venti latte). If they wanted to drink milk that has been sitting around then that was their problem Chat Icon

I was laughing today on the line b/c 3 people in front of me (including me) order their coffee smaller size in a larger cup. The staff didn't bat an eyelash.

I'm pretty sure they do their inventory by what info goes into the computer/register and then there is probably some type of monthly comparison with how much product was ordered and used.

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?

Can't believe this thread is still here, but I love it! So after reading the replies I feel so guilty every time I order my drink. I just want to put out there - at times I DO order a Tall with vanilla syrup and say clearly and loudly, "leave room for milk." Of course they fill it to the top, causing me to pour a lot of coffee out, plus the syrup I paid for, at which time I go back to the counter and make them put more syrup in. So technically I am costing Starbucks more money than I would if I just got the Grande cup.
