Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
LOL This topic is great. I understand what the OP is saying. I think ordering a grande in a Venti is ok. I do thins myself in the summer with Iced Coffee. However I do not go back and say there isnt enough in it.
They should be putting in 16oz (grande) of coffee in that venti (20oz) cup as asked by the costumer. If she is asking for more than,... maybe she was greedy or maybe the barista doesn't know how to pour that out!
Either way being a Sb store manager for a while I have seen all of the above and more and people order things and it makes you but in the end they are paying for a _____insert item here______ and come back daily.
The only item that would make me so PO'd was some one buying a coffee, coming back hours or even a DAY or two later and wanting the refill price (around 50 cents). HECK NO would I give that to them. Refill price is for people who STAY in the store and finish their drink and want another. Not coming back on your lunch break.

Unless you are pouring a gallon of milk or half and half into your coffee, you are NOT getting "free" milk. It's absurd. I see nothing wrong with ordering the small size in a big cup.

Meaning if you don't take a venti FULL of coffee, then you are taking a venti full of something that costs something as well (milk) and you would be required to pay for that.
.
Now, that makes sense-never thought about it like that.
BUT-they always over fill unless I ask for a small drink in a large cup (no matter how many times/ways I ask them to leave a lot of room) and I will have to dump out coffee.
I can see that being annoying. And who wants to waste coffee?
But the more I think about it, whether someone takes their coffee light, dark or black, it's still either a small, medium, or large coffee in the end. I would think even if someone takes 50%milk in their coffee, they are still getting a drink that is filling up a whole cup. I am surprised Starbucks would go for this. I do want to state that I do NOT have any agenda, I don't own their stock and I don't work there. But maybe that's why Starbucks had to close locations, too many people asking for "free milk" was breaking the bank. (j/k)
Just something that crossed my mind, mainly b/c the woman then complained. And of course who better to discuss the topic of "free milk" with than LIF?

Somehow I had a feeling this topic would be interesting. I was truly intrigued about the question. I never heard of anyone doing this. After reading the responses, I am surprised they give the larger cup for the cost of the smaller beverage.I would think the cost of large amount of milk should be paid for. Meaning if you don't take a venti FULL of coffee, then you are taking a venti full of something (milk)that costs $ as well and you would be required to pay for that.
My original question wasn't so much about the cost, but about that the woman had the nerve to complain. I don't get how a barista is supposed to know exactly where a grande serving is in a venti cup.
I tend to agree with the above BUT I go to Dunkin as well so I couldnt really care less.

So is it okay or not to ask for soda without ice b/c you get more soda???
That's ok, but can you ask them to use a large cup for a medium soda so you can top it off with ice?

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
I wouldn't call it gross... but sorry I think it's being really cheap.
And I actually tried this a few times. Asked for my iced grande coffee in a Venti cup so I can add the milk. I even though to myself that I was just being cheap. Couldn't bring myself to do it anymore.
The easiest way to fix this would be for SBUX to charge you based on the cup size asked for. After all, you are filling it to the top when you leave (whether it be with milk, ice, whatever). And the milk actually costs the SBUX more per ounce than the coffee! But they won't do this because they are so high strung on "keeping the customer experience positive" they would never dare.
Still think it's cheap. And for anyone who thinks it's OK because their barista said so, try going on any of the barista or employee user based forums where the barista's can post anonymously their thoughts on this topic. They will say you are cheap too!

I could tell the baristas got annoyed at this woman, but I wasn't sure if it was b/c then she had the audacity to complain about it not being filled enough. If you don't want to have any question, get the right size cup.

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
I don't know if any one else said this but this is how they told me to order it at my sb. They said for extra room or ice in my iced coffee to order a grande in a venti cup extra ice. I think they would rather do this than have to carry garbage bags filled with peoples spilled out coffee in It.

This thread is yet another reason I rarely frequent Starbucks.
I didn't realize there were so many ways to order coffee, yet alone "etiquette" behind it.
seriously.

I don't understand, how is this being cheap? I am getting a "tall" amount of coffee and paying for "tall" amount of coffee. Why would I pay for a "grande" amount of coffee if I only wanted and received a "tall" amount of coffee?

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
I never even thought about this. I like alot of milk in my coffee so I just ask them to leave extra room on top. I think I'd be too embarrassed to ask for a different size cup.

Unless you are concerned about the cost of Starbucks going up why do you (collective you) care how someone else orders their coffee?

I have seen a woman add milk to her coffee, then proceed to refill her kid's sippy cup with milk too. How's that for "free milk", lol?

this has to be one of the most ridiculous threads I have read on here. But I'm lovin' it.
hands down....
I cannot for the life of me fathom how this got to two pages on people actually debating this and giving a sh!t whether its "wrong" or "gross" to put coffee in a larger cup. It never ceases to amaze me the inconsequential things people on this board get all riled up over. This takes the cake though.
Hahahahahaa I completely agree!
If you want to be in charge of how much milk or cofee or cup size...go to 711 and do it yourself!

That is why DH prefers 7-11 coffee the best. Except for when the cashier insists on putting his dirty hand on the mouthpeice of the cup. But that's another thread for another day.

Because unless you planned on drinking the coffee black, you are essentially filling your drink up to the Venti size.
If you bought that coffee anywhere else (Dunkin, 7-11, etc.) if you ask for a large coffee light, you are paying for a large.
Sorry... I think it's being cheap. You could also ask for a Venti and specifically tell them leave room for milk. But it's cheaper to ask for the larger cup, so I guess that is the preferred way.
This is not the only way people can get "more" than what they pay for. They even coined terms for some of these "ghetto" drinks.

I think you are making great points AVE.
Unless you are drinking your coffee black, it's understood that the milk and the sugar are part of the coffee you order. So if you want a "tall" coffee, you order a tall coffee and ask for room to be left for alot of milk, or pour some out to accomodate your preference. That way the amount of liquid/beverage you walk out with is exactly the amt you paid for, whether the ratio was 5%milk to 95% coffee or 50/50.
Never knew about the Ghetto latte!!
