Oh come on people-it's remarkable because he's telling his son to finish one crappy food as a requirement to getting more crappy food. Just the irony is funny.
YES! BINGO!
I'm sure the OP wouldn't have posted: Overheard in the parking lot...
A dad asked his son, "What flavor Slurpee would you like?"
Or: Overheard in the parking lot... A dad told his son, "Finish your turkey sandwich and then you can have a Slurpee."
No humor there whether or not your child drinks Slurpees or not...
ABSOLUTELY. I just can not imagine forcing my kid to eat desert. I am not a member of the clean plate club.

wow, I'm going through this website & I'm pretty grossed out & now need to rethink certain things that I buy for the house.
As far as the original post, I also thought to myself that this dad just offered his kid crap in exchange for crap but he can feed whatever he'd like to his kid.
my dumb asss thought those were marshmallows!! hahaha! I didn't get the pic until I read the post about it being sugar cubes!!
Anyway...now all of a sudden I really want a slurpee... with vodka!! sorry I had GD while pregnant and that would be a treat for me these days!!!

Oh come on people-it's remarkable because he's telling his son to finish one crappy food as a requirement to getting more crappy food. Just the irony is funny.
But, of course, it's about more than just the nutritional value of the food. Sometimes it's about the lesson.
When we took a road trip from NC to NY we stopped at McDonalds (a few times) and I told my DD that if she didn't finish her chicken nuggets, there would be no snack later-I nearly choked on the words since I know chicken nuggets are garbage, but, it was the principle of the matter.
I know there are a thousand scenarios that could make the statement of this man reasonable. However, just hearing this little snippet-you have to admit it sounds funny.
This.
I don't even know why we don't like each other. We are on the same page abut everything most of the time

Re: Overheard in a parking lot today...
I commend that mom for imposing her belief in the balance of sweet vs. salty on her child. Don't have Palate envy.
Meanwhile, in our house, all "good" foods still have an unhealthy nickname. All carbs (waffles, bread- even whole wheat ;), etc) are called "cake". So i could imagine people hearing me say, "eat your cake and then you can have your juice!" (FYI juice is 98% water and a splash of actual juice). I could see DD getting a "slurpee" to feel like a big girl, which would really just be a splash of that crap and filling the rest up with water, etc.
FWIW though, slurpees have always given me brain freeze, so i could also see the perspective of using a slurpee as a punishment. I'm sure brain freeze is far more effective than fighting a toddler to stay in time out AND- what are they gonna tell the authorities, "My mom forced me to drink a slurpee"?! win-win.

No, in all seriousness - not a fan of slurpees & chips for kids. Is that photoshopped? How did you get the perfect picture for this thread?

I like to mix cherry and coke to get a nice delicious cherry coke. I'm pretty sure they are frowned up at Weight Watchers though
OMG this NEVER occurred to me!
As for WW - I would just log it in as crushed ice.
when my kid gets slurpees he makes an "Aidan Special" and mixes almost all of the flavors together.
Personally, not finishing his slurpee doesn't bother me... it's when he wastes a perfectly good eight ball of coke that drives me NUTS.
momma paid good money for that coke. You better finish it.

Surprised me because I only give DD healthy food. I assume most parents do the same. Yes there are special treats from time to time but I'd never yell at her to finish one unhealthy item to receive another.
Have you seen all the news this week about the government threateneing to take away fat kids from their parents?
No. Its not safe to assume that everyone does "the same", with anything.
(this is not meant to come across as a flame, so please dont take it as such) I DID NOT see this on the news. However, as a SWer I would LOVE to see the government take away all the "fat kids". You tell me....what are they going to do with all of them??? Bit of a scare tactic maybe??? On a good day they dont take kids away from drug abusing parents, they investigate. As for the chips and slurpee, whatever....

both (yummy) crappy foods but i think its important to teach kids not to be wasteful too!
I think I like this answer.
a snack or treat is one thingbut NO ONE. NO ONE needs a slurpee and a bag of chips in the same day, let alone the same "meal".
this is not something to be all " " and get twisted over.
I mean seriously
I agree. some of you need to settle down!

I call these TJ's brown rice crispy things "cake" since Declan can't have regular cake, I gave them those and call it cake

You never know what the slurpee and chips really were. I offer my DS "ice cream" for dessert every night. It's actually frozen fruit baby food in molds. Maybe the chips were pita chips?

I don't think I've ever had a slurpee.
What
You should go get one. . .even if it's just once in your life!
Were you the one that was all about slurpees in your 3rd tri? Someone one here told me they had a slurpee and then went into labor. I was late so I remember forcing myself to drink one in hopes it would induce labor. I hate them!

ITA!
now my ds doesn't drink slurpees, (i'd pass out if he did..) but i agree with the teaching them to not be wasteful thing.
we could feed a small country in africa with the amount of food my son has wasted!
