Re: Overheard in a parking lot today...
My only contribution to this thread is it made me eat a bag of chips that was sitting in my desk.
I haven't had a slurpee in probably 10+ years, but that's on my list.
But I'll make sure I pick it up after DD is in bed... because I don't want to share.

Re: Overheard in a parking lot today...
I'm sure you would've loved my oldest eating a bag of "the circle cheese doodles" at bb&b today. Ftr, she asked for mcdonalds for lunch and I did tell her no. Guess that makes me mother of the year!

I see why the original poster was thrown back by this. I would have been also. I just see no need for small children to have fake dye, chemicals, & a ton of sugar as a treat. To me it is poison. I am all for treats but made from real food sources.

I "bribed" my 2.5 year old with chocolate munchkins the other morning when she was giving me a hard time about going to school.

SERIOUSLY! haha between this thread and mine yesterday all i want to do is go home eat some bon bons and drink a slurpee later while chewing on chips.
BRAIN FREEZE!
Regarding the post: I find it funny. Because I'm sure the dad is thinking "OMG what have I just done" haha but we do what we go to do to get thru some 'moments' to be sure!

Oh come on people-it's remarkable because he's telling his son to finish one crappy food as a requirement to getting more crappy food. Just the irony is funny.
YES! BINGO!
I'm sure the OP wouldn't have posted: Overheard in the parking lot...
A dad asked his son, "What flavor Slurpee would you like?"
Or: Overheard in the parking lot... A dad told his son, "Finish your turkey sandwich and then you can have a Slurpee."
No humor there whether or not your child drinks Slurpees or not...

I'll be honest this sounds like something my husband would do.
My hubby is somewhat linear, i.e. eating + drinking = good not eating + drinking = bad
So yeah, it might just be that he's a guy and this seemed rational.
Yes, this would totally be my husband as well. And probably his whole family for that matter. His mother once told me she found a great snack for my son. It was TWINKIES. Yeah - GREAT SNACK. And for the most part they are all thin.

I get its not healthy but I feel like its their kid and if thats what they want to feed them who are we to judge. I also agree with the other women that maybe it was a one time snack kind of them. Maybe they were baked chips :)

Re: Overheard in a parking lot today...
My kids have McDonald's, smoothies, chips, cookies, etc. NOT ALL THE TIME, not every day, but I honestly do not see what the big deal is AT ALL as long as they are otherwise getting nutritious meals. Life is meant to be lived, those are treats for a kid and I want them to enjoy them and be happy. There is plenty of time to be on a rigid diet of vegetables and bland chicken. I just don't see the harm in it. If they started to have a weight problem, or if their behavior changed, I would cut back even more but that never happened to me or my sisters or my DH or his siblings and so far my kids are fine.

I don't think I've ever had a slurpee. 7-11 just made it to my hood a few years ago.
but I am sorry and flame away but some of the responses are rEdiculous.
it cannot be denied that our society is combatting a HUGE (pardon the pun) childhood obesity epidemic.
maybe YOU don't have weight problems or your kids also eat great, but statistics show that MANY children who are eating slurpees and chips at a sitting are in deep deep **** health wise.
these are simply facts. sorry if that offends anyone.
I don't judge the man with his chips or slurpee...I don't care. I feed my kid the way I want to. I give him treats all the time and I don't give a **** of Janice judges me for it. I also won't care if people are aghast watching me shovel chocolate cake in his mouth. of course they don't know what else he's eaten that day...but in the age of extremely large children, I can see why it would be on a stranger's radar.
I agree with this, and would add that I think it's okay to judge, when our healthcare costs skyrocket because of obese people and their various ailments (diabetes, etc.).
Sure, it's nice to say that 'he can feed his kid what he wants', but when that kid is an adult and has horrible eating habits and is obese and sick, and we are paying for it, is it okay to judge then?

I agree and I don't get the whole bragging about how bad your kid eats? Its not all about being overweight, it is about what is going on inside their body when you put junk in it and the damage that can be done with long term crappy eating. Someone said they have their whole life to eat healthy but to me they have their whole life to eat junk so why form that bad habit now. Just my opinion.
I am sure the Dad was just saying this out of habit and the OP caught him, lol. It IS ironic!! I don't get the big deal about her pointing it out.

OMG, I want a slurpee now
lol!!
I never got my free one on Monday
Me too! I haven't had once since 1987. And I loved the pizza you'd buy for like a quarter and nuke it on the spot. The slurpees were like 19 cents. Finding them was the highlight of my sixth grade year.

Re: Overheard in a parking lot today...
OK I may in fact be a little "dim" (probably from the MickeyD's my mom fed me) but I simply DO NOT GET the back and forth o'er this little "slice o'life" in a parking lot
This is the preschool equivalent of "I'll have the #4, supersize it please and a Diet Coke".
Probably funny/interesting for like a nanosecond 25 years ago, but nowadays, not so much kwim?

This thread has made me realize something. Clearly I am the only person that doesn't like slurpees. I tried one once in high school and I HATED it!

You are assuming that a child, you see once eating something not healthy is going to turn into an obese and sick adult.
