Pacifier weaning
I need some tips on how to smoothly wean DD off the pacifier. She will be 2 in 2 weeks, and i feel like she is getting too old for it, but everytime I try to hide it, she screams bloody murder. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Re: Pacifier weaning
I saw on the Nanny --- mom tells the baby that they need to give her paci to a newborn baby, and they will leave it for the paci fairy tied to their tree overnight, and the paci fairy will leave a gift in it's place, from another child who has outgrown that gift.
So they had a little ceremony, tied her paci in the tree, and the next morning she had a cute stuffed animal.
It worked great but that's TV of course....

Re: Pacifier weaning
My mom once shared with me what she did to wean me off of bottles and diapers!
I was the first (only child at the time) so there was no cool big brother or sister to look up to.
She sat me down with a box and all the bottles and all the diapers and told me: You're a big girl now and you don't need baby stuff. Big girls drink out of cups and go potty. Let's get rid of all this baby stuff.
We proceeded together to toss out all the bottles and diapers and the rest is history!
I got DD off the bottle the same way. Potty training was another story. I'm sure this method could be applied to the pacifier...I was 2 when my mother did this.
eta---the goal is to give them encouragement and show them how "grown up" they are.

Yeah, I tried something similar with Nate when Jayden came home and he wasn't having it...
It's so hard weaning Nate...we can usually keep it from him during the day, but he just can't fall asleep without it. He just cries non stop and looks for it all over the house.
I will admit that it's just easier to just give it to him.... Maybe if I didn't have a newborn, I'd be more tolerate of the whining. I just don't have the patience for it right now.

Re: Pacifier weaning
I heard to cut a hole in it so they can't suck on it as well, you can tell dc it broke.
Dd still has one but only for sleeping, she often tries to get it during the day or will find one and pop it in her mouth and I say "Oh, you are going to sleep? Binkies are for sleeping!" and she will usually tell me no, laugh and take it out.
Maybe you want to start just letting dc have it for sleep?
My dd is 19 months, BTW.

Re: Pacifier weaning
Throw out all the pacifiers and she will get through it. I know it seems harsh, but it is really the only way. She will probably scream off and on for a few days, but eventualy she will lose interest.
