Not saying I agree or disagree but she stated in the debate that she would support SOME legal protection for gay unions; not really the same as saying she supported gay marriage.

I'm not surprised that she doesn't agree with McCain as she is much more "conservative" then he is. I also don't think that a President and VP should agree on all topics as a different opinion can lead to a healthy debate.

Re: Palin VS. McCain on Gay Marriage

I heard this this morning. it seems she speaks her true mind when talking to the more conservative audiences, and when she is speaking to the general public she tries to hide what she really thinks.

I don't think she lied in the debate though, I believe she said something to the effect of she was "tolerant" of civil unions but not gay marriage.

i tend to agree...

i've been doing my own research, trying to find out more about the McCain/Palin camp -

this is interesting - i'd like to know how long ago this interview took place --- ps, i really wish they didn't use that background music, because it just adds unnecessary drama to the clip

also, does anyone know the story behind mccain and this WSJ reporter?? why is he so dismissive to her?

i'm sincerely curious about this....Chat Icon

I don't think she said she was OK to gay marriage in the debate. She was talking about protection and health coverage. Not marriage!

To Gird Your Loins
And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
-- I Kings 18: 45-46 (KJV)

Although "to gird your loins" sounds racy to the modern reader, all Elijah is doing is pulling in his pants. "Gird" -- actually "gird up" in the original -- means "tighten with a belt" or "put on a girdle." Elijah does not, as modern usage might suggest, fortify his thighs -- "loin" may rhyme with "groin," but this sense is relatively new.

Yes he did (Biden). I was actually surprised at that. I DO support gay marriage as I believe that what 2 adults do that doesnt hurt others is their own business.

I don't know...I really get the sense that she only says what her particular audience wants to hear. THIS is what scares the crap outta me.

I also get the odd feeling that ALL of her answers are extremely rehearsed, as evidenced by the fact that she couldn't even name one particular newspaper that she has read to keep up with world events.

Just scary.

In this particular incident, I think just the opposite. I was surprised that Obama/Biden were opposed constitutional revision that would allow same sex marriages. I think of the position to of revision as a "liberal" and/or democratic ideal.

As far as the newspaper thing, I really don't put much weight to that as I can't believe if she really wanted to, she couldn't have named one publication. I think it's weird she didn't answer but I don't think it holds much weight into any insight about her.

Re: Palin VS. McCain on Gay Marriage

"I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that's where we would go. I don't support gay marriage," Palin said. She said she believed traditional marriage is the foundation for strong families."

This statement upsets me, because it hits close to home, a few years ago DH and I attended his cousins wedding. 2 females, it was a beautiful wedding, in which his entire family attended. his cousins father officiated the ceremony i cried, because it was so beautiful.

They just had a baby, and are wonderful parents, loving, supportive, and just incredible.
I believe that what makes a strong family is the love and support of everyone close to you.

If I was understanding correctly, both Palin and Biden stated that they were opposed to amending the constitutional definition of marriage but both supported the definition in legal terms that would grant ownership of property, tax code, etc.

Re: Palin VS. McCain on Gay Marriage

As far as Biden goes... I think there are too many people against gay marriage for him to come out and say he supports it (I'd love him to say he supports it, but understand he needs to remain electable) but Obama/Biden will promote policies that are much more GLBT friendly because they agree in equal rights with respect to healthcare, etc which to me is a start.

I think Palin was trying to appear more centered than she really is, she is much more radical than McCain and I thought I read something about her being associated with a church that tries to convert GLBT people back to being straight. Chat Icon
