"I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that's where we would go. I don't support gay marriage," Palin said. She said she believed traditional marriage is the foundation for strong families."
If I was understanding correctly, both Palin and Biden stated that they were opposed to amending the constitutional definition of marriage but both supported the definition in legal terms that would grant ownership of property, tax code, etc.
This is what I understood too and agree with.
That's how I understood it as well.
So are you saying i am understanding the statement incorrectly?
I just think in this example, it's a moot point when comparing the VP canidiates because they appear to agree on the issue in regards to amending the constitution and granting the same legal rights to civil unions including same sex unions/marriages.
I can't comment on what you understand and whether or not it's correct. It's not my place to judge.

As far as Biden goes... I think there are too many people against gay marriage for him to come out and say he supports it (I'd love him to say he supports it, but understand he needs to remain electable) but Obama/Biden will promote policies that are much more GLBT friendly because they agree in equal rights with respect to healthcare, etc which to me is a start.
I think Palin was trying to appear more centered than she really is, she is much more radical than McCain and I thought I read something about her being associated with a church that tries to convert GLBT people back to being straight. _______________________________
Yes, but by the same token then Biden was also trying to appear more centered than HE is, in order to not 'rock the boat'. Both sides will do this to seem more electable. If its lying, then I feel they are ALL doing it in certain instances...

I might not have been clear -- I fully support gay marriage. I dont know if Biden does, or if he just supports gay rights without the use of the word marriage, which is what he said at the debate. I do think his policies will be more gay-friendly than McCain's.

I think her definition of tolerance is a little different than yours or mine might be--I don't think she lied in the debate really, though she didn't spell things out.
From the article, I'm guessing she views herself as tolerant since she allows partners of the same sex to share health benefits and hospital visitation.

I think when it really comes down to it she doesn't support gay rights.....in my opinion she's lying.
