what bothers me most is that knowing her daughter is 17, pregnant and unmarried she was willing to put her own ambition ahead of her daughter's welfare. this child, and yes she is a child, has been thrust into the middle of a political nightmare. no matter how much you ask for privacy for her it's not going to happen. the press is going to delve into every aspect of her life and make it public. i couldnt care less what they say about Palin, its this child thats going to take the brunt of it. i only hope they keep the wedding private and not exploit it for political gain, but, then again considering her mother my guess is thats exactly what they will do.
this alone tells me all i need to know about this woman. shes a sorry example of a parent and should be ashamed of herself.
But again, not everyone looks at pregnancy and a child as a death sentence.

IMO, Palin was NOT a good choice for McCain's running mate. Obviously life happens - but this woman has A LOT going on and it sounds like her family really needs her at this time. I don't mean to sound chauvenistic like she is a woman and should be home with her family - I would say the same of a man - there are just so many questions.

I for one would never thrust my daughter into this. The Daughter is now a target of todays VICIOUS Media and so will her child.
Too much for me. Just too much. I dont like her now at all.
As a mother I just think Family comes first.
no a child is not a death sentence, but cmon a 17 yr old raised in Alaska by a conservative mom? What does she really know about life?

I don't mean to be dense but I don't see how it matters that she is pregnant? Wouldn't it be worse for her mother if it was revealed she had an abortion?? 
ETA: I mean election-wise, not in their personal lives.

Although it is sad that she has to grow up so fast, I think there are a lot worst things we could find wrong with Sarah Palin and her daughter, after all, since when did creating a life become such a negative. She and her family have the means to give this child a wonderful life. Good for her for taking responsibility for her baby. Just because Sarah Palin is a strong believer in abstinence does not mean that she can control every second of what her daughter does.
You're right in that creating a life should not be a negative thing. I just think the way this whole situation is being handled leaves a bit to be desired. She basically "outed" her daughter to refute rumors that she had done something to hide a pregnancy of her daughter's. Like "she couldnt' possibly be pregnant then because she's pregnant now!" And I just don't think that's right... I'm not sure what she should've done, but I think it could've been handled a bit better.

this is true, how good she possibly focus on being a VP with all this going on? Like deedlebug said, this is not the worst thing for a family since they def can afford it but I guess it will be a huge wake up call and reality check!
I hope Palin realizes that even GOOD parents and parents that are involved have children that do things behind their backs.

its one thing to have a pregnant 17 year old and and be the governor of Alaska. its quite another to be a VP nominee. its not the fact that she is pregnant that bothers me its the fact that she is pregnant and has been thrust into a national spotlight because of her mothers ambition and ego. this news isnt just confined to her hometown or even her state. its all over the country. this would be hard for an adult to handle. i cant even imagine what a teenager would do. my heart aches for this child.

ETS: I see she's due in late December which obviously clarifies the other child is not hers and makes her almost 6 months along.

i am sorry but i must disagree with this statement what does being raised in alaska have to do with knowing and being prepared for life, i am sure she is just as prepared for life in alaska as any 17yo in ny would be prepared for life in ny
not saying either of them are super ready and prepared but i don't think she is any less prepared due to where she lives
and yes i know her family is conservative but it doesn't equal sheltered

No, you're 100% RIGHT pregnancy is NOT a death sentence, but just try and put yourself in this 17 year old's shoes. It's hard enough to go through pregnancy at that age and living a QUIET normal life now this girl has to go through this with her LIFE is on a MEDIA STAGE.
That DOES make for a VERY difficult situation.

My thought is just that this woman has 5 children of her own to care for and will become a grandmother just weeks before this term begins. Her family needs her.
And I'm just baffled by McCain's decision. Personally, I like him (not in agreement with some of his politics but in my work I've spoken to him a few times and met him and personally - I think he's a good man) but why her? This is really confusing for me

I don't understand.
Yesterday there's a thread about a rumor that she had a kid and the mom is pulling it off as her own. People jumped all over it, calling the mom a liar, looking at pics of her and saying she def looked PG (not thinking- maybe she was just a little chubby). THEY threw her into the spotlight, but NOW that the mom clarified things... NOW people feel bad for the 17 year old? Give me a break. 
And, sorry, but i still don't think that they would EVER tell a man that he couldnt handle running for office while he had a PG teenage daughter. It definitely wouldn't hold the weight that it is with a woman running.

I am surprised that, given this information and that he knew it, that he chose her. He knew that the media would go crazy over this- surely making it a political nightmare, but he still chose her. Personally, i can understand his choice. Politically and strategically, though, i'm baffled.

Yeah, I have to agree with this, however, I'm sure somewhere in the country this IS a huge deal to many people. For me, I couldn't care less. Especially because I'm not a Republican anyway

I would. If Obama...ok Biden... had a 17 yr old pregnant daughter after rumors of this same daughter possibly having had a previous child hiden as his own and if he threw it out there to dispell rumors I would seriously give some thought to whether I still supported that ticket.
Also her stance on abstinence. She cannot convince her daughter of her views but is gonna convince millions of following her lead on political issues?

Plus, if McCain drops her, then he doesn't look good either.
It really is a big blow. Yes, she is doing "the right thing" but how is she going to be there with her daughter at 8 months preggo b/c it is Election Night? That kinda does make her not a good parent, IMO. Her family needs her and unfortunately, she is not going to be able to be there.

I think it's funny. Whenever a topic came up about Clinton, the argument always turned to "I dont care about his personal life, it doesnt affect me". People didn't care about his infidelity (understandabley, to a degree) because it didnt affect them. They didnt even care that he purjured himself under oath because, again, it didnt affect them. But, now her daughter is PG, so people question her abilities. I'm not trying to make this a debate about anyone Vs. Clinton, just making a point that.... It's funny.

while I agree with you 100%, he was already in office in his 2nd term when the Lewinsky scandal emerged.

I didnt say that? Who did?
I think that What Clinton did shows who he was as a person and not someone I would have supported had it happened before the election. As it stands, he still did many many good things for this country, If Mccain/Palin win and do the same, people will feel the same.
Its not a matter of what my opinion on "liking her is" ...but Im giving my opinion on how I think it will hurt the party....just as Clintons mishaps DID hurt the party.
Many believe he was not a good person no? Dems and Reps alike.

Not sure if this makes a difference but she is actually pro contraception. . . maybe we should find out if the daughter used protection
