I personally would not be surprised if Palin JUST found out, the pressure from the media about the other baby may have cracked Bristol into telling.
The Bush girls drank underage & snuck away from the secret service men at parties. Al & Tipper Gore's son got busting for speeding in his Prius while smoking pot after his mother spent years trying ban video games & music because it would make kids do drugs
Kids will disobey their parents, this is a stark reality. I will not let something as personal as this affect my opinion on her as a candidate.
Its not like she was getting BJs in the oval office or banging hookers with campaign money.

Also, i'm glad that everyone else is going to have such perfect kids- seeing as they turn out exactly as you want them to based on your teachings.

Well I'd hope so, since the platform that they are pushing is to NOT allow people to have the choice.
agreed but I think they will push the spin on that statment to mean "adoption".

It's not so hard to understand- i just see it differently than you. It doesn't mean i don't understand, it just means i don't agree. She's teaching her beliefs. Just b/c her daughter engaged in an activity that went against her beliefs (like ALL of us have in regards to our own parents) doesn't mean that her beliefs lose their validity.
If you disagree with her teachings that's fine- i'm not debating that. I have an issue with the whole "if she can't have it in her own house, blah blah blah." b/c that's silly, imo- look at almost EVERY (republican AND democrat) child of a Pres or VP in history. More often then not, the engaged in activities that went against what their parents were preaching for... that doesn't mean that their parents should be completely discreditted b/c of it- THAT'S what i'm trying to say here, so there's no misunderstanding.

But heres the thing...its her platform.
She is saying this is how it is..or how it should be.
She is also saying that she would be a good VP and would be able to sway votes on god knows what in debate to HER way of thinking. Isisnt that what the position has become. Swaying peoples, parties minds to what the president wants?
And what people are saying is that how can she be good at that. How can she convince many people that abstinence is the way, etc when she cannot convince her own daughter?
I think thats a problem and havent seen a valid arguement yet on why its not other then "shes a teenager"...Yes she is BUT it goes beyond that. She is NOT a normal teenager, she has been raised to believe certain things. She doesnt believe those things. But Palin feels others will?
Maybe Im not seeing the just a teenager point well enough. I will give it more thought.

Absolutely!!! That is why we need to EDUCATE our children about birth control. Not teaching it at schools, and expecting children to be taught abstinence only at school (and some homes) CLEARLY doesn't work.
if her policies that she wants to enforce on Americans as a whole were not proven ineffective in her own home, I wouldn't care that her daughter is pregnant. But since she wants to cut federal funding to schools that teach birth control and sex education, her teenage, unmarried daughter' s sexual activities and pregnancy is CLEARLY linked to a political issue on her agenda.

I don't believe you have to be perfect or even near it in order to be a proponent of a belief? That's ridiculous. Did Palin ever say that teaching abstinence = 100% success rate? I doubt it, just like no one has ever said that teaching sex ed = no teenage pregnancies. (Everyone I know who had a child as a teenager had explicit sex ed in school... but you'll never hear me use that to argue against sex ed in schools. I still think it's important, even though it's not foolproof.)
I don't see how her daughter getting pregnant somehow makes her a hypocrite for having that belief and for being a proponent of that belief. I don't recall her saying her family was perfect or that her ideas were 100% foolproof. I honestly don't believe she is any less entitled to her opinion or being a proponent of that opinion in light of her daughter's pregnancy.
Additionally, I don't believe Palin was successful in having sex ed removed from schools in AK. (Anyone know?) Does anyone actually know whether or not her daughter had sex ed? Is is possible she did have sex ed, even if her parents promoted abstinence?

My problem with this Palin thing is that her platform is to cut funding for safe sex programs, which I feel is highly ironic given her daughter is an unmarried teenage mother to be. Although she never claimed that abstinence only programs are 100% foolproof, the research-based FACT is that teaching teens about safe sex significantly increases the use of contraceptives, as opposed to teaching abstinence only. I'd rather have a third more teens using protection, rather than not and risking pregnancy and STDs.
But, Palin apparently doesn't understand what a fact is anyway-- she has also said she wants to present all the "information" to children by teaching intelligent design along side evolution in public schools (which the supreme court has already declared unconstitutional). You may or may not believe in creationism, but it is certainly not a fact!

ITA, also having money doesn't make you a good parent, just allows you to pay more people for help or allows you to stay home with your child.....mentally I don't think many if any 17 year olds can handle motherhood but more power to those who can!
