Parties and classmates
I have twins who will be 6 We have quite of few family friend kids
I want to have a small party for them. Is it bad if I have them each pick 3-4 kids from their class to invite to the party???
I don't want to hurt anyones feelings but also don't want to spend a fortune as we are taking them snowboarding for their birthday as well.

Re: Parties and classmates
Not at all. I'm not a believer that you have to invite the whole class. Only don't send the invitation through the school.

Not at all. Every time I invite the whole class less than half the kids come and the majority doesn't RSVP. Invite who you want.

Re: Parties and classmates
Just send evites to those you want to invite. I only invited the whole class in kindergarten. Now it is just girls or just boys, or just friends.

We invite everyone in the class but that's b/c we're relatively new to LI and don't have family in the area. I think it's perfectly fine to invite only those you want, as long as the invitations are given to them outside of the classroom.

For my DS' 6th, we just invited his best friend from school. He had so many friends from outside of school (he's still tight with the kids from daycare) that I had to pick and choose.
This year we aren't doing a party.

I am so torn on this as well. My daughter wants to invite the girls in her class, and her daisy troop and her cousins..ugh I'd be broke! I also like that she doesn't want to exclude anyone or make them feel bad. We decided to have a spa party at home which was affordable. Parents drop off and my friends will help with nails and hair!

Re: Parties and classmates
It's fine. As long as the invites aren't given out in class there is no reason to invite the whole class.

Nope! We did that last year when they were still in pre-k. As long as the invites aren't given out at school. One parent did say something to me along the lines of "oh, I heard you guys had a party and we did t get the invite. I wonder if the school has our right adds down". I had to then explain to her that the kids were only allowed to invite 2 friends from school each because these parties were so expensive and we unfortunately could not invite the whole class. She understood but still a little rude of her to say something to me.

Re: Parties and classmates
You can invite who you want. You just can't have to mail the invites (or call the moms or whatever ......) you can't hand out invites in class. (at least that's been my experience)

I was wondering this too. My DD is in K and she has 20 kids in her class. The place I want to have her party only includes 11 kids in the base package and then it's an extra $26 per kid. If I invite the entire class, I am going to be bankrupt! I was thinking of telling her she could invite 5 friends from class.

My son's school has strict guidelines for parties done outside of school. Its either:
1. Invite the whole class 2. Invite just one sex 3. Invite less than half of the class so that the whole class isnt talking about it around the few that werent included

This is what I wound up doing....I had each of them pick 5 friends from school then our family friends and there will be 17 kids coming. That is perfect size wise in my opinion.
The only thing I feel terrible about is another girl from the class (that we didn't invite)is having her party the same day. She sent the invites out after but I feel bad. The times overlap by a little bit so I know one or 2 may leave early and go to hers.

Unless this pertains to them handing out invites, it's none of their business who you invite!!!!! That's ridiculous.

This is ridiculous. How can they enforce this if they aren't handing out the invitations?

No way would a school be dictating to me who i invite or don't invite to my child's party. Are they paying for it? Then no way would i even pay attention to that nonsense. What are they going to do? Expel your child? Please

The only reason i do support it is because it helps to relieve the 'pressure' of figuring out what to do but i hear what everyone is saying. Technically, it isnt the school's business on who gets invited to a bday but this method seems to work for our school.

I'd break that rule just to be a rebel because I don't like being told what I can and cannot do on my dime. I'd break it to see if they caught me. Because- how could they?

I don't have kids, but I am surprised for a number of reasons that a school has a guideline that allows for the division of sexes in that way.

Its a private school so maybe that's why? Not entirely sure...

Parties and classmates
My son is in Kinder and his bday is 10/6 so we just never did any school friends, as he gets older I know he will have friends from the grade before so we will have to change that, we have 30+ kids as is so not looking forward to it.
In any event we had our first experience w not being invited this week, the little boy told him "i'm having a bday party and I didn't invite you" and then named all the kids he DID invite. I think that was mean but they are 5 so maybe the other boy didn't realize it was mean?
