Re: Parties and classmates

My son is in Kinder and his bday is 10/6 so we just never did any school friends, as he gets older I know he will have friends from the grade before so we will have to change that, we have 30+ kids as is so not looking forward to it.
In any event we had our first experience w not being invited this week, the little boy told him "i'm having a bday party and I didn't invite you" and then named all the kids he DID invite. I think that was mean but they are 5 so maybe the other boy didn't realize it was mean?
My heart broke just reading that! I am so sensitive to that stuff. I think that's the point of giving some guidelines to parents on birthday invites because maybe in the past the same kids over and over didn't get invited and that could be hurtful. But of course financially it could be hard to invite the whole class as well as all the boys or girls. Very tricky.

Re: Parties and classmates
No of course not. Just mail the invites. Both my kids teachers say that. 1st and 4th grades.

Re: Parties and classmates
At that age if 3-4 boys from the class means half the boys in the class - I personally think you should invite all the boys in the class. In pre-k through second this is how I think most proceed - even twin parents. When there are half the boys going the kids will talk about it in the classroom. I think it's mean personally. I'm struggling with this now with my daughter. I invited all the girls in the class even though she is only good friends with four of them. I now have a party with 30 kids coming. She wants to invite two boys from her class. I told her no. I won't invite only two boys and not the rest of the boys. It's one thing for just all of one gender. I think to invite a few and then they talk about it when they are too young to understand fully to sensor makes it tough. When they get to 3rd-4th grade they have more of a "group" and they "get it" much more.

My heart broke for him also but I think it hurt me more than him bc he didnt seem too upset lol
I just told him parties are very expensive so he probably had a limit as to how many people he could invite.
