peanut/any other anaphylactic allergy moms please come in...
im so upset.... my dd#1 has a peanut allergy and we got her tested last year to prove this when we pretty much already knew from reactions she had and she was a class 2 which is considered "mild"....although i have been very careful in our home and other homes and going out to eat/parties, and im aware of the stats that theres a slim chance that she will outgrow this type of an allergy, somewhere in my naive mind i just had a small amount of hope that her class would either stay the same or get better.......well i just got back her blood results for this year and she went up to a class 5 im just so upset needed to vent somewhere so thank you for listening

I know JUST how you are feeling. My ds is allergic to dairy, peanut & egg. He was initially diagnosed with a borderline 4/5 to dairy and at his 1st annual checkup I'd gone in prepared for staying the same or going down, instead he moved up to borderline 5/6. I was devastated. It took a few days to wrap my head around, and then I was ok. At his annual test this year (his 6th blood workup) it's gone down slightly to be a 5. Fingers crossed for you that your dd doesn't have a reaction and the numbers go down in the near future.
Did your allergist talk to you about the new peanut blood test? Ours explained that just because you test positive in the blood work doesn't mean that you will react to peanut exposure. The test is not covered by insurance and runs a few hundred dollars, but it is able to break down the peanut proteins more precisely and can isolate which your dd is allergic to and that in turn allows the allergist to determine their likelihood of reacting to peanut exposure. We haven't taken it since my ds has such a quick, strong reaction in the skin/scratch tests (plus an airborne reaction in the spring) we know he's very reactive to it, but maybe it's something to look into for your dd.

wow i havent heard of this...we havent dealt with an allergist as of yet.....we have just taken the blood tests and spoke with our pediatrician..... she has had three minor reactions to peanut butter (that she spit out bc she didnt like it), a very small little piece of the chocolate from a russell stoffers candy that was in the box of nut filled candy and a raisin from a train mix at a farm....the russell stoffers and the peanut butter were given prior to even knowing about the allergy...the raisin was given by my brother by accident and then taken out of her mouth when he realized what he had done....her reactions included hives around the mouth and eyes and the last raisin reaction she had slightly puffy lips ....so would this test even be worth it for my dd since she has had decent reactions from what i would have to say was all very minimal almost even residual amounts of peanut exposure? thanks

I really don't know. IMO you should really consider bringing her to an allergist. While it seems like your pediatrician has it under control thus far, the allergist knows a great deal more about possible reactions and all the different tests. Plus they are really familiar with problems that parents run into with schools, the necessary paperwork you'll need each year (allergy action plan, standing orders for Benedryl & epi-pen) etc.

i think i will be considering it.....couldnt hurt to hear more info from someone that specializes in allergies....i do have a 504 form in place at school with the epipen jr and Benadryl appropriate dosage listed on the form so thats been done but like i said it couldnt hurt to talk to someone, like you said, who knows a great deal more about allergies .....thank you!
