Re: Pets in grocery stores!

I used to have pet mice. What if I put them in their little plastic carrying case and brought them to the supermarket with me. Would that be ok?

Or if I put a little collar and leash on them and held them in my hands while I did my grocery shopping. Would that be ok?

I don't feel that any animal should be allowed in a store that is not pet friendly.

I also don't believe in those pet carriers. I dog is not a piece of clothing, etc that should be stuffed into a piece of luggage. Chat Icon I just don't get it.

OH BOY. (inhales deeply)

That is such an overstatment & an unfair correlation to make.
Just because my dog has a carrier does NOT mean that I equate her with a piece of clothing - far from it. and she is not stuffed into luggage. Trust me my dogs are more family than most of the 2 legged members. I am glad that you don't believe in them, but for some of us they are a necessity and actually the safest way to transport our dogs. And for those that live in NYC it is pretty much the ONLY way to be able to get your dog around (subway, train or taxi), since not everything is within walking distance.

Hey another tangent...whoo hoo

I am glad it works for you but I don't like themChat Icon

I am glad you don't like them, but do not accuse me of treating my dog like a piece of clothing stuffed into luggage. Sorry but some of us take animal abuse VERY seriously, and that is not a light comment to make. Accusing someone of mistreating a dog just because YOU do not like it is over the top imo. Sorry.

I love doggies, but in general I don't think animals (except service ones) should be allowed in any business establishment (mall, post office, bank, supermarkey ESPECIALLY!)

I don't think it is right. Sorry. I feel a dog should be able to walk around not be carried around zipped up in a carrier. Just because it is easier for the owner.

Sure why not?? You could drop him off in the dairy aisle for a little snack and pick him up when you are done shopping.

it's not a big deal... BUT you made a statement that is offensive to many people...and I ask again, if you don't "like it" how do you suggest the animals are transported via train? subway? plane? etc...

I think it depends on the situation. I think that sometimes a carrier is necessary - like for travel.
But when I see a teacup yorkie in a handbag, I am sorry but I can't help but do this .Chat Icon

Sorry but AGAIN overgeneralisation is dangerous & not accurate. You are entitled to your opinion of not liking carriers, but again taking it the extra step & making it into a statement of abuse is not right. Also it is required to use a carrier for NYC public transportation. So think what you want but seriously be careful what you are implying.

Honestly, if an animal is carried around all over the place unnecessarily in a carrier, I do think it is harmful and I am a huge animal lover.

For travel, I am assuming this is your only option but just around town is something totally different. To do it just because it is convenient is ridiculous.

Re: Pets in grocery stores!

Why do the small dog owners get such a bad rep? Why do we all automatically have to be categorised by the kind of dog we have? So what I have small dogs? I have carriers for them (which, btw is the SAFEST way to get them from A to B). Does that automatically make me someone who is in it for the Fad or Fashion? NO it does not. I am not a twit like Paris or Brittney who impulse buys a 2 lb chihihuahua & then gets rid of it 3 weeks later when it is too big b/c it got to be 6 lbs, or only pays attention to the dog when it is "convenient".

My dogs are treated better than most people treat their own families.....no joke. They have the best care, get the best treatment, and above all they are all loved. PLEASE stop with this garbage of overgeneralising & making assumptions about how our dogs are treated just because they are small. It is insulting & for the most part inaccurate - if ANYone spent any real time on the pet board they would see that most of the small dog owners here are incredibly dedicated to the well being of their dog and would NEVER treat them like an accessory.

I am so done with this thread and the close-minded provincial statements and accusations being thrown around. It is rude, hurtful & just plain unneccessary.

It is not just you. And you are entitled to the way you feel, but really the accusation that went along with it is hurtful & unwarranted.
