Re: Pets in grocery stores!

I still don't see the big deal in all of this-if you don't like the idea or though of a little dog in a bag (that has hair, so no allergens) than we can walk past eachother and move on with our day - end of story! As long as we aren't breaking the law (which I know that I'm not) There's no need for name calling, etc. Besides, I've seen plently of children in stores that act more like an animal than the one that I'm walking around with!

HOWEVER, some people consider their dogs their children, like an actual child... should people with children leave them home alone when they go run errands?

Are you seriously comparing a dog to a child? Chat Icon

Like I said... to SOME people, there is no difference....

ETA: I have a dog and I don't find it necessary to bring him everywhere with me, I do leave a bag for him in the car JUST IN CASE, but I would NEVER bring him into the grocery store, to me that is just plain unsanitary...

Then SOME people need to get a grip!!!!

I love my dog to absolute pieces, he is my whole world and I would die if something happened to him...

BUT

I know that he is an animal, and animals are not allowed in all the same places as humans.......

'NUFF SAID

I just wonder why the people who bring their dogs to places they shouldn't be.....why is it OK for you to do it??????????? What makes you so special?

Re: Pets in grocery stores!

why are people discussing perfume allergies or pets on a plane? Chat Icon that is completely irrelevant.

the simple FACT is that NO pets (aside from service dogs) are allowed in a grocery store. end of story

That's totally irrealivant.....this isn't about being an animal, it's the plain and simple fact that it's unsanitary in a FOOD store.

Second, what would you do on a plane (an ENCLOSED area) where pets are allowed to be?

See I don't think that dogs (unless a service dog) should be allowed in the cabin of a plane. I think the same way an airline will not serve peanuts on a flight with someone who has an allergy, they should be strict about not allowing pets on a plane bc of allergies.

At the same time why not board the dog? I guess in cases where you are moving, it can't be avoided. I just don't see why is there to need to go on vacation with it?

You cannot board a dog or any animl like luggage. Ijust heard the other day that it isn't done anymore due to temperature changes....

And for whoever thinks that they can bring their dog to the mall because he's cute and small and fits in a llittle carrier...

That's just plain rude and ignorant of the rules and others around you.

When I say board, I meant put them in a kennel or "doggy hotel". We have a dog and I would never put him in cargo for the same reasons you posted. When we travel, most of the time we put him in a kennel or he stays with friends.

Didn't mean to go soooooo off topic.

sometimes that is not possible for people or people simply want to take their dog with them...visiting family...moving...there are many scenarios.

But it's only possible for people who have small dogs, as my 90 lb monster couldn't fit under the seat!!! Although he might try!

Re: Pets in grocery stores!

I would never bring Murphy into a grocery store. What's the point? He is more comfortable at home on the couch anyway. Chat Icon And I see the point 100% that food and other people's dogs might be "yucky". However at my old library, when I would go to return a book, sometimes the book drop that is outside was locked so when I would take a walk with Murphy and got there, I would have no choice but to hike him like a football under my arm and go inside to return the book. The ladies behind the counter thought it was cute. I was in and out. No biggie.

unfortunately that is the case- but why shouldn't my smaller dog be allowed to go because your dog can't.. OKAY, dont even answer it because that is a completely different topic, but I feel like some people- many people, I am not pin pointing are making some things into a big dog vs small dog issue-
ANYWAY, like I said, completely different topic-

I would get REALLY sick unless I had extra allergy medicine with me..all that recycled air. I have to take 3 allergy medicines as it is to contorl my everyday allergies

I think if you are flying with that bad of a dog allergy- wouldn't you tell the airline when you booked that no dogs could be on the flight b/c it could cause potential death? and wouldn't they then accomodate that as they would the peanut thing???

In my earlier posts I mentioned that I have never and will never bring my dog into any environment where there is food involved - I agree it is unsanitary.
However, places like Petco, etc I will bring her and I don't see the big deal in it. Like I said earlier, if I am not breaking the law by bringing my dog somewhere and not harming anyone - keep on walking when you see me - and I'll be sure to do the same!Chat Icon

I think we agreed 2 pages ago that since it is a BOH issue then the dog should not be there. Chat Icon That is about where the tangent went completely haywire

I don't feel that any animal should be allowed in a store that is not pet friendly.

I also don't believe in those pet carriers. I dog is not a piece of clothing, etc that should be stuffed into a piece of luggage. Chat Icon I just don't get it.

OH BOY. (inhales deeply)

That is such an overstatment & an unfair correlation to make.
Just because my dog has a carrier does NOT mean that I equate her with a piece of clothing - far from it. and she is not stuffed into luggage. Trust me my dogs are more family than most of the 2 legged members. I am glad that you don't believe in them, but for some of us they are a necessity and actually the safest way to transport our dogs. And for those that live in NYC it is pretty much the ONLY way to be able to get your dog around (subway, train or taxi), since not everything is within walking distance.

Hey another tangent...whoo hoo
