I agree. Unless someone needs a service dog, pets should not be in grocery stores.

Re: Pets in grocery stores!
i am not a fan of dogs in stores b/c i am deathly afraid of them!
but what really gets me is when you see someone driving heir car with the dog on his lap. if you are going to drive with a dog in your car, you should make sure the dog is secure. what would have happened if the car got into an accident?
sorry to go off on a tangent!

Guilty!!!
<------ drives with 1/2 pint pups on her lap. I know this is wrong. I even bought that double-doggie car seat so they can sit in it. I have to get out of this habit! It really isn't safe for them OR myself.

I am guilty too- he loves sitting on my lap and looking out the window He will sometimes sit in the passenger seat too though- he also squeezes himself between the door and my legs and naps- how is that comfy???
I know it's not good for him or me... I should stop...

Re: Pets in grocery stores!
Dogs do not belong in food stores. It's a hygeine issue.
Dogs also don't belong in any other non pet-related store.
People are afriad, people have allergies.
It's very different from perfume. it's an ANIMAL. Does not belong in the store. AT ALL. EVER.
I'm a big animal person..but they stay home!

Some people are allergic to dogs. It's really not fair that they have to be near dogs in areas where dogs shouldn't be. Every mall I know of has a restriction on allowing dogs- seeing eye dogs are the only ones allowed inside...
I totally agree. I think it's just plain rude of people to presume that their dogs are welcome in enclosed PUBLIC spaces. I don't care if they're on a leash or in a bag. Some people, myself included, have severe allergies to pet dander.
It's just completely rude and thoughtless...not to mention you look like a complete and total idiot.

Re: Pets in grocery stores!
Oh man! Hot topic I know!! I am going to respond even before I read through the whole thread!!
NO dogs, big or small belong in any store UNLESS they are a service animal or that store allows animals..such as a pet store.
Period. End of story.

just be Extra careful... I use to work in auto claims... sometimes the accidents just happens so fast,if a car hits yours your suppose to have a footlong space between you and the steering wheel for the airbag to deploy

HOWEVER, some people consider their dogs their children, like an actual child... should people with children leave them home alone when they go run errands?
Are you seriously comparing a dog to a child?
Like I said... to SOME people, there is no difference....
ETA: I have a dog and I don't find it necessary to bring him everywhere with me, I do leave a bag for him in the car JUST IN CASE, but I would NEVER bring him into the grocery store, to me that is just plain unsanitary...

Unless it is a guide dog, I absoulutly HATE when people bring their animals into Grocery store, malls, resturants. Its unsanitary and gross. But god forbid they leave their "babies" home

No dogs allowed = it’s against the rules In this particular case = health code violation
The next time I see a dog in a grocery store or anywhere that sells food, I am going right to the manager and then reporting the store/restaurant to the Health Dept.

I used to let me Shiba sit in my lap. HORRIBLE. One day the neighbor's kid started barking at my dog (genuis right therre) & my dog went nuts & jumped over my head. I could not see & actually "dumped" the truck onto the side of the road & scraped a fire hydrant!
After that I got the seat for him. He hates it but tough ta-tas. It is not safe for him either. Had I left the window open instead of putting the a/c on, he would have been launched out the window into oncoming traffic

First, I def. don't think I or anyone else looks like a complete and total idiot for taking their dogs out of their home- grocery store FINE-it is unsanitary-other stores where pets ARE allowed and it does consist of more then PETCO and PETSMART-It is the owners decision
Second, what would you do on a plane (an ENCLOSED area) where pets are allowed to be?
I know it stinks for people with allergies but if the animal is allowed, they are allowed
obv. the topic got away from simply grocery stores... oh well

Here is the thing. There are people for this & people against it, and a few who could care less. All sides have valid reasons for their opinions on this, but as far as name-calling & people being branded as idiots becuase we like to spend time with & socialise our dogs is just as wrong if I were to call someone else an idiot for not wanting to be near my dog. If it is done against code, or store policy then it is wrong. BUT, if the owner of a store is pet-friendly and I decide to take my pet there then what is the big deal? If you don't like it I am sorry, but you don't own the store. If you tell me you are allergic, I will tell you that my dog has no allergy causing irritants, and we would be on our way - no harm - no foul.
Just like I said, I am allergic to certain perfume but that does not mean that I call people who wear certain perfumes idiots (well not to their face anyway ...) why?...because there is no "No obnoxious perfume wearing" signs in the stores. It is just an annoying thing I have to deal with.
So I think at this point the subject has been beaten to death (again) and we should (again) just agree to disagree as long as no rules are broken.

Dogs are not human so there is no need for them to be in a store. I am sick of seeing them sitting in carts, or in their "mommies" arms or even worse propped in a child carrier. Unless they are seeing eye dogs they should be left outside. I don't give a dang how small they are.
Before it is said I yes I do love dogs!!
To each is own..... BUT until I'm escorted out of the mall for having my dog in a bag (not bothering anyone) you'll still see me shopping with her and minding my own business.
Even if it's posted that only service dogs are allowed?
That's like saying if no one SEES you shoplifting you're going to go ahead and do it.
Are you seriously comparing me bringing my dog to a store in the mall to shoplifting?? I don't think what I'm doing is criminal. : NOt sure I see your correlation there....
I'm comparing breaking the rules to breaking the rules.
If the sign says NO DOGS then there should be NO DOGS.
Just because no one says anything to you doesn't mean you shoudl try to get away with it.

Actually I don't think you CAN be allergic to perfume. Just like you can't be allergic to cigarette smoke. it can irritate you, but ulike dog dander, which IS an allergen, there is no major health risk from perfume.

See I don't think that dogs (unless a service dog) should be allowed in the cabin of a plane. I think the same way an airline will not serve peanuts on a flight with someone who has an allergy, they should be strict about not allowing pets on a plane bc of allergies.
At the same time why not board the dog? I guess in cases where you are moving, it can't be avoided. I just don't see why is there to need to go on vacation with it?

And to answer the inevitable next question, it can be dangerous and traumatising to a dog to put them in cargo.

I would get REALLY sick unless I had extra allergy medicine with me..all that recycled air. I have to take 3 allergy medicines as it is to contorl my everyday allergies

Actually I am allergic to a filler chemical that is used in the cheaper perfumes. If in the right dose it can actually cause my nose to bleed b/c I get a reaction in my nasal membranes, just like a "regular" histamine.

technically not an allergy
but I agree, I think it's equally inconsiderate to wear a lot of perfume.

You cannot board a dog or any animl like luggage. Ijust heard the other day that it isn't done anymore due to temperature changes....
And for whoever thinks that they can bring their dog to the mall because he's cute and small and fits in a llittle carrier...
That's just plain rude and ignorant of the rules and others around you.
