Picky eating 2 year old!!!! HELP

Ok....so I don't know when enough is enough.

DD will eat 4 things as a meal......elbows with butter, macaroni and cheese, ravioli's, and the occasional PB&J. That's it!!!! No chicken, beef, veggies---forget it!!! No potatoes, nothing!!

I feel like a short order cook. Then I will offer something, say yogurt, and I give it to her, and she's pushes it away. Some nights I will offer her about 5-6 things to eat. Usually cheeses, yogurts, apple sauces, or her macaroni.

I'm so frustrated because she really has a horrible diet. The stuff I give her isn't bad, but it's not a balance. She hasn't eaten a vegetable in MONTHS.

Is she still to young to just give her her dinner and if she doesn't eat it, too bad??? I feel bad doing that, but she's a horrible eater.

She's going to be 2 next month.

I totally feel you. Christopher is a very picky eater too.

Honestly, I just make him what he wants to eat, it might not be the right thing to do, but I can't stand him not eating at all at this age. I've even gone to McD's and gotten him chicken nuggets and fries b/c I know he will eat themChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Picky eating 2 year old!!!! HELP

MY 2 1/2 year old is the worst eater and its so frustrating

He would eat Bread and Cookies for days if I let him...put i dont

I give him whatever we are eating for dinner and then he either eats it or doesnt

I also found that snacking thru the day is better for him at least...these are the things I manage to sneak in

Cheerioes
Bananas
Spaghetti
Meatballs
Hummus
French fries
apple slices
strawberries

These are the things he literally lives on with the addition of broccoli on a good day

I am beyond frustrated!!!

Re: Picky eating 2 year old!!!! HELP

Looks like several of us are in the same situation!

Just this morning, my 2 year old refused to eat anything but a half-cup of yogurt. Although she did say she wanted animal crackers. Chat Icon By the time I dropped her off at her little playschool, she refused to let me go while hysterically crying saying, "I eat snack until you come back." The teacher gave her a small cup of goldfish and she was happy enough for me to leave. But you know what? I'm still not going to give her goldfish for breakfast at home.

I am someone who refuses to offer a whole menu of choices; she eats what we eat or that's pretty much it...unless she wants applesauce or a banana maybe.

I'm thinking it's most likely just a phase...

Oh I am SO in the same boat! DS is terrible. We are really trying to make him eat what we eat or telling him no dessert. i know he is hungry bc he will eat plenty of junk for dinner if we let him and i also know that he will eat for my nanny bc she's tougher than we are. i dont love giving him dessert every night (although sometimes we can get buy with just a couple of whole grain animal crackers or even a piece of fruit) but it does seem to get a little dinner in him. I do try to stay away from things that he consistently just hates but I am no longer doing the chicken nuggets fall back every night.

Re: Picky eating 2 year old!!!! HELP

My DS likes to eat things on a stick - like chicken or he eats lamb chops on the bone b/c he likes to hold things.
He likes corn on the cob
We also toasted something in front of him once and he thought it was great - so we started doing "meat cheers". I'd put a bite of food on his fork and my fork, we'd do "cheers" and then eat it - make a big deal and how good it was and he'd do the same.
My sister also had canadian bacon that he liked - another first meat.

My mom gets chicken meatballs at stop and shop - not sure of the brand - frozen and he likes them.

I also posted a few times my chicken meatballs =
regular meatball recipe then I split it in 1/2 - first bowl got petite diced tomatoes and shredded motzerlla cheese. The 2nd bowl got chopped spinach and cheddar cheese.
I had to make bite sized ones b/c if he saw you could cut it he'd smush it to death.

good luck.

jerry seinfelds wife wrote a book - deceptive cooking or something like that--- she adds fruit/vege puree into batters like pancakes and muffins, adds it to sauces. dips chicken in it before bredding.

I'm just glad I am not the only one.

We were in Hershey this weekend....and all DD ate was a banana and animal crackers and of course chocolate. I can't get her to eat real food. She won't even try it.

I may try that "cheers" idea....maybe she will go for that.

The other day I gave her mashed potatoes (plain) and she made this face like I just put boiled liver in her mouth! Who doesn't like mashed potatoes?!?!?!

I could have written this WORD FOR WORD. DS eats like 4 things and thats it. He definitely doesnt have a balanced diet and Im sure he is not getting the proper vitamins he needs. Speaking of vitamins - he refuses to take those too.

I have no advice, but Im at my wits end too.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Christopher hates them!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

For us it is a little easier, since Chris works nights, we don't eat together most of the week, so Imake his dinner (usually grilled cheese or nuggets with apples)

I do have lines that I draw in the sand, no juice until his milk is done, no candy corn for breakfast (todayChat Icon ) but it is such a pita!

me too, my DS eats more McDs than I care to admit bc it is one of the only things he will actually eat. He will let himself starve if it were up to him.....not kidding.

He does like the V8 fruit fusion juice so I try to give him that since it has 1 serving of veggies and 1 serving of fruit in it. I could do without the sugar in it, but at least hes getting the nutrients for somewhere. You can also try OJ fortified with Vit D.

Once you can get them to eat grilled cheese, you can stick a slice of turkey or ham or even thin apple or pear in. Then you can build from that.

Also, my DS loves to dip - even if its pizza in ketchup Chat Icon

I didn't like mashed potatoes until I was married - and they have to be either very cheesy or have a lot of garlic.

Will DC eat fruit? That's my saving grace, DS will not touch vegetables, but he will eat a lot of fruit.

Otherwise, he's pretty much a cheese, ravioli, yogurt, muffin, sometimes bagels, and pizza guy. He has started eating mac n cheese, which is great--I swear, I wanted to turn cartwheels.

I try to give him something he will eat at each meal, and something to try out. Most of the time he will not eat the latter, but I feel I need to keep trying. If he eats nothing, he gets a piece of cheese or two and some crackers. Or yogurt. I can't go crazy cooking too many things for him.

I feel your pain though--hope DC broadens horizons soon!

Laila and Chelsea must be bonding over not eating veggies in daycare Chat Icon

She refuses to eat any veggie...Once I got her to eat string beans because I let her dip them it ketchup. But then she wound up just sucking the ketchup off of them and not eating them Chat Icon

Will Laila eat fruit? That is the only food group besides Chicken and Pasta that I can get Chelsea to eat.

I am in the same boat!!
Bry lives on:
Cheerios (any type)
Goldfish
Pretzels
Waffles
Pancakes
100 Calorie Packs (Yes, I DO send these to school for a snack..at least I feel it's a little healthy LOL)
Chix Nuggets
Grilled Cheese
Yogurt

If I DARE sneak any food into any of this food, its OVER...He pushes it away and acts like, "Maaa I don't trust you anymore"...It stinks!

It's good to see that we are in the same boat. DD is 2 1/2 and is a picky eater. She will not touch a vegetable but thankfully she will eat fruit all day long if she could. DD usually eats
pancakes
occassionally eggs
waffles
cheerios
goldfish
wagon wheels
pasta is usually a sure bet
peas cucumbers
cheese, ham or turkey sandwich
pizza ( sometimes)
