Please help settle a debate
Ok, please settle a debate I've been having for 8 years with my DH. We're talking about dinner plans for tomorrow, and he suggested chicken. In my opinion chicken is meat, and I won't eat meat on a Friday in Lent, nevermind Good Friday. He claims its poultry, and not meat, so I should just eat chicken. (I am allergic to seafood, which is part of the issue) HELP!

Yes, chicken and pork are white meats, beef is red meat.

I think I remember hearing that it had something to do with the fishing industry in Rome. But there probably is some other reason...I think the idea was that it would be a sacrifice, as in, we shouldn't really be using it as an excuse to have shrimp scampi and lobster tails.

Eggs and seafood are rarely referred to as meat even though they consist of animal tissue

it is so funny b/c me and vinny always have this discussion b/c of the price - chicken is so much cheaper than fish and he always says "jesus will understand that we don't have the money right now for FISH" lol  he says when we are 'more established' we'll buy fish left and right! haha!
i don't eat meat - any type - on friday's during lent - but then again my mom and even one of my priests at the church says it was a man made rule - it is not in the bible but who knows? i still don't eat meat on friday's b/c i feel bad lol but IMO chicken IS meat.

Yes, chicken is meat. You can eat fish today, but no chicken, pork, beef, or other animals.

I never understood the fish thing either- but I don't eat seafood anyhow, so I suppose it doesn't matter anyway.
