Re: Please help settle an argument.....painting and molding???
We did our moldings/trim white, just prefer the look better. Gives it a clean finished look.

Re: Please help settle an argument.....painting and molding???
We did our mouldings in white. I prefer white because I think it helps make the color on the wall stand out more.

I agree with the white. And I'm not criticizing, I'm seriously asking a question - what would be the purpose of having moldings if you were just going to paint them the same color as the wall anyway? I don't understand how that would heighten the room...

Not sure, but often molding just makes where the wall and floor meet look more finished. And normally one solid color elongates whatever it is. The same idea as when sytlists tell short women to wear all one color (at least from the waist down), it creates the illusion that they are taller. Multiple colors create a choppy therefore shorter appearance.

Could not have explained it better myself!!! Thanks danielle!!!!!!
Its not like the molding in the basement is fancy or expensive or evenbig and bold where you would want it to stand out from the rest of the wall. It is just simple molding that finishes off the end of the wall.

Re: Please help settle an argument.....painting and molding???
What about staining the wood molding. This way you can keep it dark, but the white could be shocking with such deep colors.
My parents did their dining room a very dark blue and stained their molding. I think it looks better than had they done white.

Re: Please help settle an argument.....painting and molding???
molding and trim should match. I agree with a white or a creamy off white. I'm not a fan of all the same color.

I also have to agree with your husband on this one. It will look much nicer and much more "finished" if you paint it white.
