potty training advice for a working mom
Both DH and I are teachers, so I thought we'd focus on potty training over the summer. DS just wasn't ready (he turned 2 at the end of March). He will use the potty sometimes, but never initiates it. I try every morning before we leave for daycare, but he really only goes maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Daycare is great -- they put him on the potty several times a day. He has only gone a handful of times since starting back in September. Tonight, though, after a diaper change before dinner, he told me he was going pee pee in his diaper. I got all excited and said, "Great! Let's go on the potty!" He had a meltdown and refused to go near the potty. He did go before bed though...
I am thinking that I need to get serious about this, but am at such a loss. I will not have the opportunity to just put him in undies for a week and stay home in case of accidents until Christmas break. Oh, and there is some pressure... I am having twins (probably sometime in April).
How do working moms tackle this?
TIA

I would either try now over one of the breaks coming up OR I'd wait until after the babies are born because he WILL regress! And you don't want to have to retrain him..

Re: potty training advice for a working mom
I tried with Lucas at 2.5 years old and it was a no go. He wasn't ready.
A few months after (we tried in November) in February the daycare teacher sent a note asking for underwear because he was showing signs of being ready. So I sent them in...wound up with a ton of laundry (but some very patient teachers) and by June he was able to pee without a problem...poop was another story.
But...as of 10/1 I feel I can say he is potty trained. Hasn't had any accidents since August and now it's common to find him in the bathroom on his own to go. We will try nighttime in underwear in November.
Potty training was one of the hardest parenting things I've had to do but what I learned...at least for Lucas...was that they will get it when they are ready. Not so much before. And of course each child is different so "ready" is a very individual thing.
Good Luck! Definitely let daycare help with this....they are very good!
