Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas

I am just going to put my opinion out there because I think I may have a very different view than most others.

At this point, I can't be overly pi$sed off at Similac. There was a potential contamination in one of their plant. They are spreading the word about the recall and have procedures in place to reimburse parents for the recalled formula we still have. I understand most ped offices and stores are not aware of the recall yet, but this recall only happened a couple of hours ago. (my ped didn't know about it nor did the local supermarket where I just returned an unopened package).

I imagine it might take some time for all the stores to get the word.

Right now, I think that Similac is doing everything they can to rectify the situation. Thankfully, there shouldn't be any health issues surrounding the recall. My DD has already completely finished 2 containers and half finished 1 container of the recalled formula and she is fine. I just went out and got some of the Similac RTF.

I guess I am just not at a place yet where I can be really upset with them as a company yet. They seem to be doing everything they should be to make things right.

I am thankful, however, that I am a part of this site because if I wasn't, I don't know how I would have found out about the recall until I went into a store and saw the shelves bare.

ITA! I will definitely be staying with Similac. It was a mistake and they are taking action to make it right. This could very well happen to Emfamil or any other company.

Seriously, though, am I the only person not SO freaked out by this? I mean, yes, it is gross, but this stuff happens. She already went thru every tub out of a giant box purchased directly from Abbot and she's on the last one, which was recalled. She already had probably 50+ bottles with the contaminated formula...

I agree with you. To be honest...2 of our containers in the trash were on the list and so was the one that is almost done. DD is just fine.

Anyone know what I should try in place of Similac Advance? I will obviously call her ped in the morning but wondering what anyone on here who uses Similac Advance will switch to? DD does not like RTF....I also hate warming bottles.
I have some single serve packs to hold me over.

I called the Ped yesterday, they told me to feed DD RTF, but she throws that up. So they told me the Enfamil neborn in the yellow container would be fine. She's had 3 bottles of it since and my happy little girl is back.

I do hate the enfamil container though, so because of their packaging, I will be going back to similac once they fix this.

This has been DS & I just attributed it to him being transitioned from BM to formula but that was over a week ago. My suspicions acted up once he woke with a bleeding diaper rash yesterday! The Ped said that it is more then likely the result of the formula. DS was rather fussy & gassy lately on the recalled formula & like you said having diarrhea like there is no tomorrow. Last night we gave him the Up & Up brand formula but he SCREAMED!

I finally caved at 2am & gave him the RTF & his bathroom issues have not been as bad but still diarrhea. My Ped called this morning & told me to switch to Enfamil Gentlease & see if there is a change. She said the bathroom issue WILL correct itself once it is totally out of his system. Plus if you look on Abbott's website, they say the recalled formula CAN cause severe stomach & gastro issues. I guess we were the "not-so-lucky" ones Chat Icon

We were the no so lucky ones as well. DD has been sick since Friday with stomach issues. Farting up a storm, screaming when we try to feed her, and then throwing up formula once she's fed. We thought she was just having an 'off' couple of days. But this completely explains it, and since we tried the Enfamil last night, she has been back to her normal self. My poor MIL thought she was doing something wrong, and I thought she was just tired and that was the reason she was screaming. Chat Icon

It says on the site that those are ok. I even checked a box that DH bought yesterday while he was at the store.

I was afraid to say something, I'm not really freaked out either. But I go against the grain often. Its seems harmless, but worthy of a recall because its not what you payed for KWIM?

DS isn't on powder but, I'm concerned as to what this is going to mean for the supply of the other Similac formulas as people try to find alternatives in the interim. We tried so long to find a formula that worked for DS after he got a stomach bug and couldn't keep down Gentlease anymore.

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas

All 7 containers we have and the 1 that is opened that we are using now are all recalled.
So is the formula at my parents house for when they watch him.

Does anyone know if I can bring the opened container also to Target for something else??

I haven't been able to get on the website to check yet. DD has been pooping like crazy (though, not diahrrea) I figured it was because I've been introducing stage 3 foods to her...but, maybe this is why

So gross Chat Icon

Do we need to have receipts to return to Target? I have 2 empties and an almost full

You should be able to. That's what retailers did with the Tylenol/Motrin recall. I brought back 2 empty containers to Costco last night and got full price back.

open a full one and split it half and half-if it was recalled, there should be no reason why they shouldn't take it back. Abbot is taking back empties.
