Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
Shoot - I had two lot numbers (5 containers) that were recalled but I returned them already. Sorry ladies!
ETA - Lot 92586T20 is recalled. This is the one I just got from the store (BRU), that they said wasn't recalled. I'm not happy!

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
If you do get on the website and have a Lot number that is recalled, please post it on this thread. I have been trying to get on the similac website for 15 minutes and nothing!

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
FInally got through by phone...
Similac Advance Lot no 87882T20 bought at BJs in Levittown-Recalled.
I was told that the stores will replace with the RTF bottles.
I asked about the sample cans as well and those may also be on the recall list. Of course I don't have it... it's at the day care.

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
Abbott Laboratories today issued a recall of nearly 5 million units of Similac baby formula after consumers reported finding beetles and their larvae in the powdered breast milk substitute. An inspection of the Sturgis, Mich., plant where the formula is manufactured confirmed the contamination.
Production at the plant has been halted while it is treated for the infestation, CNN reported.
What, exactly, is being recalled? Approximately 5 million units of powdered Similac that is packaged in plastic containers, as well as 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans of formula are being recalled. Liquid Similac is not believed to have been affected and is not being recalled.
Why is it being recalled? Who likes finding beetles or larvae in their powdered baby formula? In a statement released today, Abbott Laboratories said that though the Food and Drug Administration determined there was "no immediate health risk," there was "a possibility that infants who consume the formula containing the beetles or their larvae could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat."
Where is the recall being issued? Stores throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and nations in the Caribbean are affected by the recall.

Wait so the small cans of powder were on the recall? I cant get on to the site now but I swear this afternoon they said they were NOT included and I'm wondering if that changed...

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
Fabulous. The very first container we used for Jeremy was recalled. We only have the container because we forgot to recycle it. We havent used the Similac brand since last week. We decided to save some money and use the Kirkland brand from Costco. All of his pediatricians said it was fine. Glad I am using it now. Ill continue to do so.

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
My DS was on Similac Sensitive for about 2 weeks, we switched to Up & Up brand of the same formulation, and it's been great. Definitely worth looking into if your DC is on the Sensitive...

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
Strange. Charlie has been eating like a pig lately. I guess she likes the way Beetles taste
Seriously, though, am I the only person not SO freaked out by this? I mean, yes, it is gross, but this stuff happens. She already went thru every tub out of a giant box purchased directly from Abbot and she's on the last one, which was recalled. She already had probably 50+ bottles with the contaminated formula...

I was afraid to say something, I'm not really freaked out either. But I go against the grain often. Its seems harmless, but worthy of a recall because its not what you payed for KWIM?

just went to the BJ's in Levittown to return my 2 unopened tubs of similac advanced and they had no idea about the recall and gave me a gift card.
then i had 2 other tubs that i purchased from stop and shop that were recalled.. they gave me a gift card for one of them.. then the similac RS they said was not recalled but it IS! the lot number said it was according to simliac.com and they did not refund me money.. i am so mad

I am so glad you posted this! We bought this today to see if DS can tolerate it bc quite frankly I am not going to use the RTF & give Similac the extra $$. I did it with DS#1 & will not do it again.
I am not sure if this has anything to do with the recalled formula but DS has been pooping like there is no tomorrow (this is the second can he has gotten) & now today he has the WORST diaper rash, to the point that his cheeks bleed when you change him.

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
Anyone know what I should try in place of Similac Advance? I will obviously call her ped in the morning but wondering what anyone on here who uses Similac Advance will switch to? DD does not like RTF....I also hate warming bottles. I have some single serve packs to hold me over.

Re: PSA ..... Recall on Similac Formulas
Just wanted to say thanks so much for posting this last night. I didn't see it on the news until this morning. I ran out to Toys R Us last night and got different formula.
I was so ****** though bc of course I had just sterilized and made all of their bottles for today.....and of course, all of them w/ the recalled formula. (I bought it all at Costco so hopefully they'll take it back.)
