There are still parents that are freaking out here with what we have and are insisting they need their kid in school five full days a week and this is not enough for them.
Well, yeah. That schedule sucks.
We're hybrid for elementary school. DD goes 2.5 hours a day. The district is now saying they might not go back to full in person until 2023.
2023??? WHAT????
Yeah, we got an email saying they understand the government is pushing to open full time but we need to temper our expectations and they might need to stay this way until 2023.
I will be on Cuomo's doorstep telling him to cut every penny of state funding these worthless clowns receive.

WHAT!?!?!?!? That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. I teach and pray that next year is closer to normal. I can not continue to teach this hybrid model. It is sucking all the life out of me. No hands on science experiments. Everything is a demo or simulation - it is so boring. By next fall, I would think most people could be vaccinated - especially if the JJ vaccine is approved (EUA) in the next few weeks.

Public schools - remote, hybrid or full?
Full time for elementary but so many random week closures to remote. Hybrid for middle and high school. The city has hybrid for elementary and middle and high school are remote. The city also has tons of elementary going remote for 2 weeks at a time. I read that out of 1.1 million students, there are probably 100,000 in school on a given day. Those poor kids are screwed

I legit live in the looney bin. I have never seen so many people who are against school. They were complaining today that the kids should have been let out early today because of the snow. Earlier than 11am. And there wasn't even any snow yet.

Full time in person K-8. The rest of the grades are hybrid but going back full time soon.
If my elementary school was still fully remote I'd probably be calling the news too

We have a similar set up and I am one of those parents who is freaking out - my kids definitely need to be in person more.
This is hard on them, this is hard on me and it's hard on their teachers. Nobody benefits from this craziness.
I made a comment to DS 2 about being his teacher today (his teachers are great). He's like no - you are more like my daycare monitor - you are there to help me when I need it lol.

We are k-12 in school full time since September. Parents had a choice of being fully remote in the beginning. My kids are in school and I thank god they are everyday!

In the NYC DOE middle and high school school students have been remote since mid November and at this point I doubt that they will return to in person before September. They also close entire elementary schools for 10 days if there in more than one case. Parents outside of the city should be extremely grateful they are not dealing with that.
YUP! It is absolutely atrocious and maddening. Don't even get me started on how they're doing High School admissions this year either.
My son is actually excited to take the specialized high school test tomorrow morning....because he will be in his own school for 3 hours tomorrow, the first time since November

The school district in my town has all elementary schools open full days, full time. Middle and high schools are not. Parents of kids in elementary schools have the option of doing remote learning.

2023 ... helllll no. I would be writing everyday to the superintendent and school board voicing my “concern”. No way is that acceptable even 2.5 hours now is not. Sorry no excuse at this point why kids can’t be in full time!!
Aren’t you the same person who’s said your principal told you to make sacrifices regarding your job. I am still mad for you on the comment he made. More power for not flipping out on these people cause I would have.
Not that moving is easy but if I was told my kids would not be back in school till 2023 I would really do everything I could to try move cause no way I could deal with that!

2023?!?!? What?!?!? How can anyone even project what September 2021 will look like let alone September 2023!! That superintendent sounds like he has a screw loose.

That is absolutely ridiculous. They need to figure out a way to get these kids in school. If there is no room to social distance, buy trailers, put up barriers or just do something. There is no excuse for any child to be remote or hybrid in September (unless the parent chooses). I would be calling up the BOE and demanding answers. If they are doing nothing, there are elections coming up and get someone in there that will do something!!

LuckyStar I remember u were having issues with ur school not having the kids full time or was it only 2 hrs? Now that they’re “projecting” not being able to have the kids full time til 2023, I’d raise hell for them to do something about it. Have u been able to talk to other parents and together meet with the super and the BOE? There’s no way other parents don’t feel the same way as u do, especially hearing the district saying they won’t have the kids FT til 2023.

Re: Public schools - remote, hybrid or full?
All students, district wide, in school full time. Parents did have the opportunity to chose to keep their child on remote learning model if they wanted.
We have had a few closures but I think with all the protocols kids are staying in school. They have started live streaming classes in the middle/high school for the students who have to quarantine so they are not missing out on so much

Yes, that is me. They make my blood boil.
But the other parents don't seem to care. They either have a nanny, don't work or both. Beyond the absurdity of my work situation going to hell, these kids aren't learning anything and I'm actually not so certain this would be different in non-covid times. There are 6 tutoring centers in town. It's not a large town. They are always packed when I pass them (so much for fear of in-person school). Why? Why is there such a demand for tutoring centers? Why aren't the schools doing their job? Not every family can afford $100 an hour for tutoring (and even if they can WHY WOULD THEY).
Sorry, I'm just venting but I'm glad you guys agree with me. I often feel like I'm on another planet around here.

Public schools - remote, hybrid or full?
I’m in New Jersey. My town it is 2 hr 45 mins per day In person for elementary school and every other day for middle and high school from 8 to 12. To remote , just in person hours. Nearby towns are either hybrid or totally remote. No one is there full time anywhere near me.

Our district is similar. 5 half days for elementary, hybrid for middle and high school. It is a nightmare, especially for families with kids in two schools. My DH was pushing me to put them in private school when this year started. I didn’t want to pay $$$$ just for them to be shut down. Wellllll, joke was on me because the private schools near me are all open 5 days a week.
Our district has also started to prepare us for a similar hybrid situation next year. If this is the case I will definitely be enrolling my kids in private school. I can clearly see the impact of this on my kids and I’m very unhappy about it (not to mention the stress this has put on me trying to juggle an insane job while “homeschooling” 2 kids). So done.

2023? That's ridiculous. By the end of the summer there will be several vaccines out (as well as boosters I am sure). Teachers are already ahead of the line to get vaccinated. Even if the teacher's unions push for remote, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Public schools - remote, hybrid or full?
Elementary 5 full days in person, MS and HS hybrid (2 days per week in person).
District claims as long as social distancing is in effect the MS and HS will be hybrid. Who knows how long that will be. No large group of parents here are pushing for more in person unfortunately. In fact, I’ve watched the number of remote students vs in person students keep increasing (there’s actually more remote than in person now for both the MS and HS) and it’s not solely because of increase in cases etc. Mine tried to go full remote because he finds no benefit going in (classes are live streamed), no mask at home etc etc. With the amount of times the school closes, he’s practically remote anyway, he’s remaining hybrid for now.

Yes, I think this will be the case as well unfortunately. There is just no way to properly socially distance students at the MS and HS level at 100% capacity unless you are fortunate to live in a district that has unused rooms or small class sizes. I sometimes have classes of 32 students. The desks are literally back to back with maybe 2 feet apart left to right.
As you said more and more of my students are choosing to be remote. Some students are being forced to by their parents, but others just don't see the point of coming in for instruction if they can do the work at home. This works out fine for the motivated students, but is a total disaster for struggling learners.
I PRAY things are better in the fall and that we can return to a more normal school setting. Many teachers I work with are currently stretched too thin with the hybrid model and are looking into different professions.

They have to be better in the fall. Working parents trying to help their children on top of their other jobs are stretched too thin as well (well, at least the ones who care are... DS was telling me there are some kids in his class who's parents must not care as they don't show up most of the time).
