Queens moms - tell me about schools
DH and I are in the process of hopefully moving back to the US next year (Fingers crossed!). We're likely to end up in Queens, but the school situation worries me a bit.
If you have kids who are school aged, where do you live and where do they go to school. Are you happy with it? If your kids are still too little, will you stay in your current area or move for better schools?
Thank you!

We live in Howard Beach. As far as I can tell, our three closest public schools are good!
DD will go to the public school a block away, I went there too!

Re: Queens moms - tell me about schools
I live in Bayside in what is considered a good school district and we will most likely be staying here. I think we have pretty much decided that she will go to public school and maybe for high school go to private school(this is what I did).
ETA: I went to school district 25 and we are now living in district 26.

I believe districts 25 and 26 are both rated high--at least for elementary and jhs. not sure about high school...

Re: Queens moms - tell me about schools
I live in District 25 and most of the schools in this district are excellent. We are actually zoned for the elementary school and junior high which I went to as a child.
DD is only 3 months old so she still has a while before starting school, but I would for the city school system and can honestly say that I am happy with the educational quality of our zoned schools.

Re: Queens moms - tell me about schools
I believe District 25 is the top rated and most coveted. That includes whitestone, parts of bayside and bellrose. For high school, you really need to look all over to find the right school, whether that is a public or private school.
I grew up in district 24 and have some friends with kids in the district. I have a friend that is a teacher in one of the junior high schools. They are changing over all the schools to K-8 so each school will be more localized to the neighborhood it is in.

Re: Queens moms - tell me about schools
I was brought up in SD 26. SD 25 & 26 are good for elementary & jr High.. for high school, I'd personally look into private. If you have to do public HS, Cardozo HS is good but I wouldn't say it was excellent.
