Working moms - tell me your secret!
I went back to work today (yes, we made it in without incident today - my co-workers are now calling me "Crash" ) and I'm DEAD TIRED! Granted, James had a rough night last night because he's so congested so I've been up since roughly 3:30!.
I got home from work, played with him for a bit, threw in laundry, straightened up a bit, prepared bottles and his diaper bag or tomorrow, made some phone calls to the insurance company about the accident and took care of Lilly. Forget about even attempting to do dinner - thank goodness DH is out with an account tonight in the city.
I got home around 3:30 this afternoon and it's only 6 now.
How do you manage to get anything done? Will I eventually fall into a routine?

You definitely get into a schedule. I used to wait until after DS went to sleep to get his bottles together. I usually get home around 5:15-5:30 and most nights DH is already home and has dinner ready. We eat then play with DS for about an hour, he gets a bath, couch time and then bed time between 7:30 and 7:45

Yes, you will eventually fall into a routine. You eventually learn to adjust to being tired most of the time, but you wont feel as tired as time goes on. I don't get home until 6:30 (on a good day) so I don't get much time with DS. Usually I walk in, start making dinner, eat dinner, get DS ready for bed, and maybe get some time to watch TV before I head to bed for the night. Then I wake up and do it all over again. Soon enough you will adjust and it gets easier.

You will get into a routine but even that takes some time. You just do the very best that you can. I get home later and have only a few hours to get things done...first being bathing and changing DS and getting him to bed in 45 minutes from the time we get home...but we do it and for the most part it works.
Just prioritize and deal with what you can outside of that time...make calls on your lunch break...run errands at lunch...it helps.

It does get easier and you get into a routine. I wash bottles while DS is playing (like in the excersaucer). I also get his clothes and my clothes out the night before. I bring lots of extras to day care so I don't have to restock the bag everyday (diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, food, dishes, spoons, blankets, bibs, clothes, etc...) As for dinner, I rarely cook big meals during the week. I either make quick meals or I cook a lot on the weekends so we have leftovers during the week. It does get easier.

I get only what absolutely needs to get done, done... i.e. bottles washed, prepped for next day, eat dinner (usually a bowl of cereal).
Everything else gets done over the weekend...... sometimes....
And yes, you will fall into a routine!

ITA with this. I literally broke down crying in my kitchen last night because I can't keep up with the mess. I haven't done MY laundry in about 2 weeks, and I'm starting to get to the end of what's in the closet.
I'm not gonna lie, it is VERY tough...but you will learn how to use what little time you have to get as much done as you can. Then, there will be other nights that you will simply put your feet up and pretend not to care (I've been doing that a lot recently ). It'll all come together in the end.

Re: Working moms - tell me your secret!
I'm not going to lie... it's hard. Even when you do fall into a routine. My son is 17 months old and i went back to work when he was 3 months old. It's still hard.
You just learn to do things little by little. Do laundry one night. Clean the bathrooms another night. Clean the kitchen the next night. You get the idea. You also accept that you don't get much time at night to yourself. Well you could if you stay up late, but i prefer sleep. I have no idea why i have a subscription to Us magazine because i haven't read one in months!!!!
My son is a horrendous sleeper. Always has been. That definitely makes it much harder because sometimes you feel like a zombie. One word... COFFEE. Then have some more!
Honestly without my husbands help all the time, i don't know how i would have survived. Granted he's not around some nights (rotating shifts), but still.
Don't worry, it will get easier. There may be moments when it's hard, but they make it worth it. It's all about the little moments and you'll figure it out as you go along.

Re: Working moms - tell me your secret!
I have found that although I get frustrated over the weekend, I try to get as much done then, to free up the evenings when I get home.
On Sat/Sun - food shopping -laundry -think about dinners and lunches for the week -prepare for daycare (pile items to be placed in diaper bag the night before instead of running all over the house)
When we get home, its dinner, play, bath and bed. All the other things were mostly taken care of on the weekend.

Re: Working moms - tell me your secret!
I'm the type to just push and push and push myself until I drop. I would like to have the majority of the necessities done during the week so I can just relax with DH and James on the weekend. I know that I will drop dead if I keep up with what I've done tonight alone.
I guess I'll have to learn to let some things slide...
Oh - DH is really a big help when he is home - he travels a TON for work, but when he IS home, he helps me out a tremendous bit.

Re: Working moms - tell me your secret!
for me - nothing, and i mean NOTHING gets done while emma is awake and i get her home. i don't read posts, i've lately taken to not even turning the computer on until she's asleep! when dave gets home, we eat (9:30'ish) and after that - we play with Emmers until she conks out for the night...and THAT is when things get done - bottles, dishes etc....
you will eventually figure out what works best for you & your family!

I do this too--everything done the night before (clothes for me and DS, lunch for me and DH packed, bottles for DS packed)...I find I turn on the washer when I am getting his 3AM bottle ready , then throw it in the dryer when I get up at 6... I make a lot of quick dinners--sometimes stouffers frozen, sometimes chicken in the oven with microwaved noodles or rice... it doesn't get easier, but it gets into more of a pattern.

Re: Working moms - tell me your secret!
I make easier dinners during the week...english muffin pizzas, bbq stuff, crockpot, breakfast for dinner....that frees up some time. The laundry usuallly stays in the dryer, and I just do what I can do....it's exhausting, but you do fall into a routine and some days are easier than others. It gets easier
