Question about grandparents.
Heres the story:
I recently took a weekend getaway with my DH & two other couples to Lake George for the weekend. (This was about 3 Weeks ago). DH's mom watched my daughter from Wed-Sunday.
When I came back, I offered my MIL money for a thank you for doing us the favor. (Not thinking that she would accept it)
She did though, without hesitation. $200.
Would your parents or inlaws accept money for babysitting their grandchild?
Just taking a general consensus...

NEVER.....my parents and ILs practically BEG us to watch him and for him to stay over. I think she should've turned it down or at least accepted half of it or so......that's A LOT of money to take from your DC for watching your grandchild, IMO.

No, they would not/have not.
Rob's parents have never watched our children - they are too busy. My mother watched my boys regularly and the only payment she would accept was being taken out to dinner once a month.. but she always found a way to pay for it.
Rob's sister and my friends have watched our children for us. They do not ever accept payment. But I do offer - and I offer with complete sincerity and the hope that they WILL accept something. It is never an empty gesture. When they do decline, I find other ways to pay them back - gift cards to restaurants or stores they like, little gifts to show my appreciation, taking them out, etc..

My parents have 15 grandkids. They have watch some of them for a week or two while the parents are on vacation. They have my one niece for one month during the summer. They never would accept a penny for watching their grandkids.

No way-I could see if it was a regular babysitting arrangement, but just a random weekend? No and I wouldn't even think to offer.
Maybe she really needs the money? Is she in financial straights? Maybe she took it because she needs it in general as opposed to taking it as payment for babysitting? I don't know, I'm trying to give her the benefit.

Never. I doubt they would ever ask or take money from us. We try to be more generous with gifts for them since they watch DD for us during the week.

No they wouldn't. But in the same token, neither my parents or my IL's have taken DS for a weekend yet- even thjogh we've asked many times. I would gladly pay anyone (anyone that I trusted) $200 to watch DS for 5 days so DH and I could have some alone time.

In all honesty..............my parents (and probably my IL's too although I would never leave DD with them) would absolutely NEVER, EVER take a dime from me for watching Emerson. They live to see her so to have anytime to spend with her would be payment enough. I cannot even imagine my parents taking money from me. I would actually be shocked.

I do not believe my parents or MIL would ever take money for watching DS. (My mom watches him for us 2 days a week now and we do give her money towards all the gas she uses to drive up here... but she NEVER wants to take it, we kind of force the issue)

My honest opinion is that if you are willing to offer someone money (no matter who it is) you have to be ready for them to accept it. You can't be mad at her for taking it... you did offer it to her.
