question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
i want to go to stop and shop today but its just me and DS. i havent taken him out to a store alone yet where i needed a cart.
where does the infant seat fit? would i have to put it in the back part or does it mount on the front little seat?

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
Never put it on the front seat, always in the basket!
When DS was a baby, I wound up piling all the food behind his seat and around him. Then the second time, I realized it was easier for me to bring someone with me to push a second cart. It's also much easier to order pea pod at that age.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
Will he sleep in a carrier like the Baby Bjorn or a sling? That way you will have the whole cart free

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
Unfortunately whenever I took the carseat out of the car and put her onto the shopping cart (in the front basket, like where you'd put eggs and bread!) she always woke up...LOL, but yes, that's how you do it. I've also seen mommies put it inside the actual cart.

Please don't put it in the little front part of the cart. It is not safe.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
I always put him in the basket part when I needed to get a couple of things. Full blown grocery shopping just never worked this way bc the carseat pretty much takes up the whole cart. Before he was able to sit upright in the front of the cart, I would wear him in the Bjorn.

It can make the cart unbalanced.
I've also SEEN a carseat topple off of a cart this way. I was traumatized! (I scold moms in my head when I see their baby up in the front).

Probably bc they 'assumed' that moms do it all the time, that it's safe.
I've seen first hand, it's not.

I agree, it's not safe to put it in the small "basket" part where a child would sit. The carseat is bulky and heavy and can make the cart topple over (whether it "clicks" in or not).
I always put him in the big basket at that age and put all the food around him.
When I had to do a bigger shopping trip, I would put the carseat on the snap n go or stroller and push the stroller, pull the cart through the store. A little awkward at first, but I got pretty good at it, lol.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
I never tried mounting mine of the front part of the cart; I'm an anxious new mom and I'm afraid she'd fall. I put her in the big part of the cart. If I had a large shopping to do, I'd put DD in my sling.
Life is 100% easier once she could sit on her own and I could put her into the shopping cart, strap her in, and go!

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
Whoops- I put DS in the front part but always held onto the seat. I probably took him shopping by myself only a few times. I do a lot more now than he can sit in the cart.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
When DS was still in a carseat I always placed him in the front seat part with him facing me and used the belt straps that come with the shopping cart to fasten the carseat to the cart. I never once had any issues nor at any time felt he could fall out. The shopping carts at my supermarket are so heavy that the even the weight of an infant and carseat would not topple it over. But hey, that's just my own personal experience.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
I always put the car seat in the big part of the cart however, I feel like the only one that does that. I usually see people putting the carseat in the basket but I didn't do it bc when I tried, it didn't seem right. The seat clicked but seemed like DS was tilted backwards.
DS hates his carseat so if I am going to be in a store for more than just a few minutes, I put him in the carrier. He usually falls asleep and our shopping experience is MUCH more successsful (and quiet!).

Ditto! The front part is so unsafe!! I was at Target once and saw a mom with the infant seat in the front part. She didn't realize that her cart only had 3 wheels and her car nearly tipped over! She felt awful and she was halfway through the store before having cart balance issues.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
You could also put the carrier into the snap and go and push the stroller while pulling the car behind you. I've done this lots of times.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
Car Seats cause the center of gravity to shift in a shopping cart increasing the chance of the cart tipping over. Place the seat inside the cart. Unfortunately, the baby stores do not know about safety and the products.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
I'm also in the "never put the seat in the front" camp..... Now, with 2 kids, I have the bucket in the cart and the toddler in the seat, and I can buy about 6 things. LOL. Well, I guess it keeps me from over spending.... I wear the baby when possible, but if he's sleeping, it's sometimes not worth the risk to wake him and have a cranky baby while I'm trying to shop.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
The infant seat doesn't fit well in the front of most supermarket carts (figured this out before I knew it wasn't safe).
I used to shop with the Bjorn when I had to bring DS with me before he could sit in the front part on his own.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
I always put luce's infant carrier on top.
the carrier comes with two grooves that you can securely place and balance the cart on, and then you use the "seat belt" inside the shopping cart to secure it.
If you secure it properly, it as safe as anything else is.

how is a car seat any different than a toddler simply sitting in it? it's about weight and balance.
