Unfortunately whenever I took the carseat out of the car and put her onto the shopping cart (in the front basket, like where you'd put eggs and bread!) she always woke up...LOL, but yes, that's how you do it. I've also seen mommies put it inside the actual cart.
Please don't put it in the little front part of the cart. It is not safe.
really? i only did it once. i asked at the front counter at buy buy baby if i had done it right and they told me yes...
It can make the cart unbalanced.
I've also SEEN a carseat topple off of a cart this way. I was traumatized! (I scold mom's in my head when I see their baby up in the front).
oh no! i didn't know. i edited to say i did do it once or twice.
I did it ALL the time heard the warnings, etc
It wasn't until she got squirmy I moved her to the bigger part.
To each their own. For me a child strapped into the infant seat with the handle up in the front or back part was still in deep doo-doo if the cart was flipped over. So instead I took precautions to NOT have the basket flip on me. I never walked and talked on the phone, still don't. I never put it out in 'traffic' spots. I never just left her there (for a quick second) and reached for something too far or walked way (for a quick second - famous words) If I was in a store with her alone, it was business. In and out, if i can't reach it then it was a true case of "is it worth it" the answer was always no. *shrug*
I'm protective but practical, I guess.

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
I tried putting him in the front basket and it was sooo unstable so I put him in the back - ie int he entire shopping cart - so i had no room for anything. I have worked out a system now -- I bring my own bags - very big canvas bags that are durable and I put him in the stroller and push him around the store and just keep the canvas bags on my shoulder and fill them with my purchases -- no one will look at you like you are shop lifting or anything because they will see you with the baby stroller and know you can't handle a cart! Warning - sometimes the bags get heavy so if you have lots of heavy items you may want to go when your hubby can watch the baby stop and shop makes this technique super easy because they have those guns that you can scan everything with so all you have to do is go up to the register with your scan gun and pay and you are right out the door -- we do food shoping it 15-20 minutes this way

Re: question about infant carrier seat and shopping carts
My infant carrier wouldn't sit right on the top part (it always leaned backwards) so I put it in the cart itself and filled up the top "seat" part with my groceries. One tip I have is that I put the mommy hook on the handle and hung a hand basket from that so that I could fit some more stuff on there and also fit some stuff under the wagon. I wasn't able to do BIG grocery shopping but I was able to get essentials for meals for about 2 days.. good luck.
Other easier option is to put the carrier in one shopping cart and lug another cart behind you.
