Re: question about staph infection

You should find out if it is MRSA or regular staph infection. My grandma is in the hospital right now and she has stomach issues and they discovered she has MRSA. I am not going to go to the hospital. It is just not worth the risk to me and my child to go. I feel badly, but at the same time, my health and that of my child is really important to me. If you choose to go, do not touch her. Wear a disposable gown. Wash your hands. When you get home immediately wash your clothing and shower. As an aside staph is everywhere, but as a pregnant woman you cannot take the same meds they give someone who is not PG. The above precautions are standard for anyone visiting a patient with MRSA not just for you. I would call your obgyn to see what they advise.

ETA: I am sorry that your mom is sick. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

I work in a hospital so I am around this stuff all the time -- is she on any type of isolation precautions?
I would def wear gloves and they might/might not depending on exactly what it is make you wear a gown. I would think it is OK to go visit without getting to close, but of course check with your OB
