Question about weddings in PA
I have a wedding to go to in PA on May 27th. I've never been to one in PA before and was curious if there are major differences between NY & PA Weddings. Is it common to have a cash bar rather than an open bar? I just want to be prepared and make sure I won't be short on cash and be forced to drink soda Also, when I got the invitation, the RSVP card asked for our entree choice. I've never seen that before. Is this common as well?

Re: Question about weddings in PA
I think the entree thing is more common outside this area. I have been invited to a few weddings that had that.
I don't know about cash bars or what not in PA. I learned the hard way to be prepared.

Yeah....I think that is the safest way to go. It's tough being a lush

Re: Question about weddings in PA
I went to a wedding in Pittsburg, it was actually very formal. no cash bar, but they did ask about an entree choice w/the RSVP card. My sister got married in CA at a very fancy venue and the same Q was asked. I think it's just the way it's done OOS.
when DH's family (ALL from OOS) got our wedding invites, they were all asking my MIL "I didn't get the card with the choice of a meal, are they not serving food"?

Re: Question about weddings in PA
Where in PA is the wedding?
I went to one last summer in PA and we also had to pick the entree beforehand
The only big difference that I noticed was that after the bride and groom's first dance, they served dinner (salad, appetzier, meal) and there was no dancing until the meal was over. There was no dancing between the courses or even slow dancing during some of them. THey left the stands that they put the trays on in the middle of the floor so you couldn't dance.
Also, there were only light appetizers during the cocktail hour (cheese and crackers and a few passed appetizers). DH and I made the mistake of barely eating anything before the wedding (thinking we would fill up at the cocktail hour) and we were starving by the time dinner came!
But it was a very fun wedding

Re: Question about weddings in PA
not sure specifically about PA, but have been to OOS weddings, and all the oos weddings (basically, CT, MASS, and Kentucky) all asked for entree choices before the wedding...
2 in CT and the Kentucky wedding there was no dancing until after all of the meals were served
they were all open bar ...no cash bar
Have fun!

Re: Question about weddings in PA
We went to a wedding in PA, but the brides family was form LI, so it was a LI style PA wedding. open bar and we got the entree choices with our invite as well.
salad was served immedialtely, no first dance until after dinner.
but it was a fun wedding.

Re: Question about weddings in PA
Where in PA? I live in the Philly area, and weddings in Philly or the direct suburbs are exactly on par with NY weddings - no cash bar, I can tell you that. But, the further away from Philly, the less fancy it gets. If it's in the philly area, I know mostly all the vendors and can tell you what kind of place it is.

Re: Question about weddings in PA
I've gone to weddings in NY, NJ and FL where I was asked the entree choice prior to the wedding...and they were all very formal affairs.

Just saw this - while the place looks nice, I've never heard of it. It's close to Philly, but not one of the more upper crust neighborhoods, so I would bring cash with you. If they are from that area, it will probably be quite different than a NY wedding.

Ahhh..I see. So I guess its common with OOS weddings. Cool. Thanks! DH was saying, how can I know what I want to eat 2 months before hand. It reminded me of that episode of Seinfeld where George's dad was going around the reception trying to trade meals with the guests.

There is also a similar King of Queens episode!!
According to the website, an open bar is included in the wedding package so I think you can leave the cash at home

I have been to a few PA weddings (I went to school in York and many of my sorority sisters lived in PA) and everyone one of them was a cash bar. When they came to my wedding they were amazed that I was paying for all the drinks!!
