Question: as a kid how often did you go out to eat with your parents and if you did go out where did you go

My parents took us out to dinner with them a lot. We usually went to Italian restaurants. We weren't chain restaurant people, but the more I think about it--there probably wasn't many chains then.

Only if we go straight A's (or it was the last day of school) did we ever see the inside of a McDonald's.

One not fancy place I miss is the Woolworth luncheonette (someone mentioned this place in another post) in Rossevelt Field my aunt and ma would take us there for grilled cheese (moment of silence)

For special occasions my parents would take us to McDonalds. We never went out to restaurants because my father doesn't eat food that my mother didn't cook.

We very rarely went out to eat. My parents didn't have a lot of extra money.

my dad use to take us to ponderosa when my mom had to work, and i use to love it bc you got to make your own ice cream

We always did! It was so much fun. We used to take limos into the city and eat at fancy restaurants. My dad would wear his suit and my mom would wear her fur coat. We would have to get all dressed up. What great memories

We very rarely went out to restaurants to eat when I was young. Honestly, up until I opened this post, I don't think I ever realized that - and it's honestly not something I feel I missed out on even though I enjoy going out to eat now (don't do that too often nowadays though).

We went to the Ground Round a lot.
I used to love the popcorn on the tables and the cartoons on the big screen and I THINK kids would get a balloon too!

Friendly's was also a big one with us.

And Pizza Hut.

And of course, I ate a LOT of McDonald's and stuff like that when I was a kid- I think that's the reason why I can't stay away from it now- no matter how hard I try!

We also did take out around once a week.

my mom was a SAHM -- so for the most part we didn't go out to eat a lot--since she made dinner every nite.

once in awhile or special occasions, we went out and my dad isn't a fan of chain restauarants, he prefers local eateries and especially italian. my mom might take us to friendly's if we did really well on our report cards for the whole year as a treat.

i went out to eat a lot with my mom... all sorts of restaurants- sometimes we'd drive into the city to eat at chinatown.

i'm trying to do that with my daughter- we go out to eat every friday night- somewhere "normal"- sushi restaurant, big daddy's, etc.

On certain occassions we would go out, but rarely. Not because of a money issue but my parents were born in Italy, mother is an awesome cook, so for us to go eat out at an Italian restaurant was a joke, LOL! Hamburgers were made homemade with fresh chopped meat, seasonings, you can't buy a burger the way my mother makes it. Same thing with steaks. Once in a while, we would order chinese food.

ETA: Friendly's was a place they would take us for fun. I don't feel like I missed out on anything....Some of my friends who ate out 2-3 times a week, couldn't believe that my mother cooked dinner every night and the food she prepared and they used to ask if they could eat over On any given day we would have fra diavolo, linguini with fresh clams, gnocchi, filet mignon wrapped in bacon, etc.

My parents were big on diners and back in the day I thought they were fancy

This is going to sounds like my stores gone out of business thread....

I remember going to the Rusty Scupper on Jericho for special occasions.

When I was very little we went to Coco's in Massapequa (now there is an Olive Garden there) and I loved it!

Come to think of it I don't remember too many chain places either.

It was a rare occassion. It was just too difficult to round of 3 small children, pile them into the car, and get them all settled at a restaraunt.

We did go to Ground Round occassionally. And McDonald's was always a huge treat.

Very rarely...my mother cooked every day of the week except for on Friday, which we would get pizza or chinese (or sometimes McDonald's). My father did not like to go out to eat (he still doesn't!).

We used to go to Friendlys on occasion..It was in walking distance to our house.

The big time for us to go out was for our b-days. When it was your birthday you got to pick the place..that was a big deal for us.

My mom cooked a lot chicken, turkey, london broil etc.

We rarely went out to eat-usually for a special occasion we went to the local Italian restaurant. We never ate fast food. Thats why when I met DH I gained weight-his family went out a lot. I do remember getting those pizza hut book things-you would get a free pizza if you read a certain amount of books and my parents would bring us there.

Every Friday night and on special occasions. Italian and fish places mostly.

We only went out for special occaisons, or as a treat. We'd order in a pizza or Chinese more often.

When we did go out it was to McD's or Burger King. For sit down, we'd go to Friendly's. I remember once going to Red Lobster and thinking it was a 5-star restaurant!!
