Very rarely did we go to a restaurant for dinner. Maybe once every 2-3 months. I remember going to the Ground Round as a kid, and that's about it. But a little more often (twice a month or so) we'd get lunch on the weekends, either at McDonald's or a pizza place, or we'd order Chinese.

all the time. Mostly the diner, Italian and Chinese. We would go fast food once a week and order pizza and Italian in too.

On special occasions we went to The Merrick Marlin that used to be on Merrick Rd in Merrick. That was my birthday dinner...love lobster!

My mother was a real princess...although she did cook, just not all the time.

the only time we went out to dinner as a family was when my extended family was there and my parents didn't pay.

we were very poor.

of course, we'd have take out occassionally, but out to a restaurant...I can pretty accurately say never, until I was 15, and we went on our first family vacation to Disney.

my momentous occassions...graduations, communion, confirmation etc were all paid for by my grandparents.

We went out often - about once a week.

I am an only child so my parents would take one of my friends to dinner with us
beefsteak charlies and big barrys and sunday buffet at Ponderosa oh and sizzler and ground round

My parents had 6 children, so dinners out were RARE!! Growing up, the big excitement was more so getting pizza or Chinese for dinner since we never went out.

If there was a smaller celebration, my parents would take a few of us out (as we got older and the older ones were off doing something on their own) and there were no limits on where we went.

ETA: I have two children and we feel comfortable enough to take them to dinner with us now and then. Pretty much anywhere, they are well behaved.

Usually an Italian place or IHOP. It wasn't very often.

We always went out for birthdays. We had the choice of Red Lobster, Ground Round, or the local Chinese place.

We would sometimes go to those places at other times too, but it was definetly a treat.

We also went on vacation just about every year, so we would eat out then too.

When my grandparents were babysitting they would take us to Friendlys or the diner.

We only had Burger King on road trips--never McDonald's, because my Mom hates it.

On special occassions we would go out to the diner, etc. My Dad (every Saturday) would either order up a few pizzas or get us McDonald's/KFC. When I got a little older and my Dad would take me to Newbridge Road Pool, we'd stop at McDonald's on the way home for a happy meal and ice cream! That was our "date"

My Mom, Sister and I used to go to Friendly's, Roy Rogers or Chi-Chi's together. I miss my sister

I remember going to Torcello's in Elwood all the time on Tuesdays, then we used to see a movie at that theater in the shopping center (tuesday was cheap movie night)

Hmm not too too often. but, we did go out.

We had a big family so we used to hit up Pizza Hut for "book it" a lot.

But... I did go out to eat with aunts, grandma's etc. a lot. We had special days with them.


We also went to friendly's, ground round (when you could pay your weight and throw peanuts on the floor) or pizziara uno.

When we went to family counseling once a week we could go to Pancho's in Oceanside (it moved now) each week. I still love Pancho's to this day and I go to the one in Bethpage a lot.

We ate out at least twice a week when I was growing up, weeks when we were on the road (my Mom has a crafts business and we travelled most weekends for a few months at a time) we ate out maybe even 3 times a week! We went to diners, restaurants, never ever fast food.

Ponderosa, Sizzler, Pizza Hut, Chinese restaurant in Bayside, sometimes Red Lobster. Fast food we would have pizza, McD's or White Castle. I LOVED the small WC burgers as a kid.

We went out to eat or brought in food at least 4 nights per week. My mom hates to cook and she's not very good at it. We went everywhere from chain restaurants to local Italian, American, Japanese, etc. restaurants.

We would go out on the weekends, the diner, Pizza Hut, stuff like that.

They took us into the city to fancy restaurants for our birthdays.

We had pizza every friday

We ate out more when my Grandma was in the hospital, she was usually in Mather, so we'd go to Pizza Hut (where IHOP is now), Friendly's, Landmark (not there anymore) and the diner

We didn't eat out often, but when we did, it was either the local diner, this place called Stallone's, or the Ground Round. We would do fast food every so often, but my dad was a cop and worked nights, so my mom usually just cooked for us.

We hardly ever went out. I remember when I was REALLY young, we went to a local italian restaurant before my sister was born. We also went to Phils in Astoria for the BEST pastrami sandwiches and hot dogs ever..nothing fancy at all.

My grandmother would treat us once every 2 weeks to Roy Rogers after my sister and brother were born. It was the best outing ever. We were always SO EXCITED to go there. Then Friday nights became pizza night. I remember ONE pizzeria delivering and since they were the only ones, we would have to wait like 2 hours for the pizza to arrive.

When we went out with my cousins, we ALWAYS went to McDonalds..they were literally considered rich.

Ohh..and how could I forget the ground round?? With the old time movies and cartoons with the popcorn on the table. One of the days was weigh day..you paid what your kid weighed. Crazy! I LOVED it there!

Rarely did we go out to eat - we were pretty poor for most of my childhood.

Most likely Sizzler's or Friendly's.

Once we got on our feet, a fave (but again, only occasional) restaurant was Abel Conklin's. This was only about 15 yrs ago though.
