Question for the milk protein allergy moms whose children reacted when dairy food was introduced. UPDATED in original post!
If your child was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy as an infant and you later introduced dairy foods (cheese, yogurt, etc.), and they reacted negatively, was it right away, or did it take some time? What did the reaction look like?
DD has been on dairy products for 6 weeks now, and seemed to be doing fine, but all of a sudden she has been having some diarrhea. This may be due to eating a lot of beans, fruits and veggies, which she loves, but then this morning she had a mucousy stool with a tinge of pink in it, which may be blood. I'm so upset, because everything was going so well. DH is bringing her to the gastro this afternoon to have her stool tested, but I wanted to see what other mom's experiences were. Maybe she was doing well on small bits of dairy, but now that she's more readily eating cheese and/or yogurt on a daily basis, it's building up and causing a reaction? UGH!
UPDATE: DH took DD to the GI today (what a weird sentence if you don't know the lingo...lol). We are cutting out all dairy for now, and will try again in a month or two. I have no idea what to feed this kid. Her growth curve keeps declining. (From 50th %ile at 0-5 months, to 25-50th at 6 months, 25th at 9 months and 10-25th at almost a year).

Question for the milk protein allergy moms whose children reacted when dairy food was introduced
DD did not have a milk protein allergy but she did have an issue when I introduced milk and cheese. For her, it's hives that pop up on her face within minutes even if she has a small amount. I've done a lot of research on milk allergies since then and there are so many kinds. Some take hours, some a day, and some several days to appear. Some people can tolerate more dairy than others without a reaction. In this case, I would google it and see if you can pinpoint what type of reaction she seems to be having. I had a terrible time bc DD's reaction is to uncooked dairy (which is a whey allergy) and they only tested her for boiled milk. I really wish I had figured it out bf they ordered the test so they could have specified to test for that!

Re: Question for the milk protein allergy moms whose children reacted when dairy food was introduced
DD was sensitive to milk protein. When I gave her yobaby yogurt at like 6 months, she projectile vomitted. 2 months later, I tried again, she vomitted and had a rash around her mouth. So we waited until she was past 1 year to give her whole milk. At 13 months, I gave her started transitioning her to whole milk while mixing it with BM. In a about a month and change, she was on whole milk.

Re: Question for the milk protein allergy moms whose children reacted when dairy food was introduced
See, DD has no rash, no hives, no vomiting. No immediate reactions to dairy at all. It was the same thing with the formula. The only reason that she was diagnosed was because of microscopic blood in her stool upon testing. She's going to be a year old in a week, and I really thought that we were done with all of this, because she was doing well. I'm so frustrated.
If you brought your DC for allergy tests, at what age did you do it? Does anyone have an allergist to recommend?

This was my DD too. Milk protein allergy, introduced dairy @ 11 months and she was totally fine. A few months later she wasn't, same symptoms as your DD. We took her off dairy for about 3 months, introduced it again with cheese and yogurt only, she was fine, a month or so later re-introduced milk and now she's totally fine with it.

I got a script at DD's one year appointment to get allergy testing done. It was a blood test. We haven't seen an allergist at this point though.

Okay, that gives me some hope. I was so hoping that we'd be done with the Neocate soon. We're paying OOP, and I can't wait to transition to whole milk. She barely drinks her formula as it is,b ut that's a while other topic.

Just wanted to add that part of what they tested DD for was almonds, soy, and coconut to see what options she would have if we couldn't give cow's milk. I still mostly nurse her at 13 months but I am introducing almond milk as well.

When you eliminated it again, did you include cooked/baked products (cakes, pancakes, french toast)? I'm just thinking about all the foods she eats now that we'll have to eliminate.

Unfortunately yes, even hidden/cooked dairy. But only because she was still reacting to it. I would try eliminating only the milk/cheese/yogurt type stuff and see how it goes. IF she's fine then no need to eliminate everything, she just might not be able to digest the complete proteins yet.

Re: Question for the milk protein allergy moms whose children reacted when dairy food was introduced
We basically are going through the same thing. Tried adding in hidden dairy at 12 months, seemed ok but then once I had a piece of cheese a week later he started w/ excema and mucous. The doctor said to stop right away because it will prboably only get worse if we contine the dairy. For now we are going to wean him onto soy milk and then try again in 3 months. It is VERY frustrating. Our son had the blood allergy test which came up negative for any allergies but the doctor saiid that not all milk allergies are IGE mediated meaning they will not show up on the blood screen for IgE antibiodies. unfortunately there is no perfect test for milk protein intolerance especially when it causes the bloody stools/excema and not an anaphalactic like reactoin HTH!

Re: Question for the milk protein allergy moms whose children reacted when dairy food was introduced
My daughter could not tolerate milk when we switched from formula. It upset her belly and she would scream in angony. Previosly she was on Allimentum and zantac(?) for reflux. We switched her to Soy MIlk and she was fine. She is 6 and just started drinking regular milk this year. Although her body could not tolerate straight milk she was okay with yogurt and cheese we just monitored her intake.
