Re: question re: jewish faith/marriage

My DS is half catholic/half jewish. I am baptizing him & he will receive communion & be confirmed as well in the catholic religion this way if he ever wants to marry a catholic girl in a church, he won't have any problems.

But my question is what if he wants to marry a jewish girl in a temple? Will it be a problem? Does he have to have a Bar Mitzvah? DH has no clue Chat Icon

If your son one day wants to be married to a Jewish woman by a Rabbi, it will depend on the denomination of the Rabbi, as your son will not be considered Jewish, as you (his mother) are not Jewish. Conservative and Orthodox rabbis do not perform intermarriages. Some reform clergy (wedding ceremonies can also be performed by a cantor) will perform a ceremony for an interfaith couple. Having a Bar Mitzvah will not be the issue.

Re: question re: jewish faith/marriage

From my understanding, your DS is what you are. If he tried getting married in an ultra-orthodox temple, it would not be allowed. He is not considered Jewish from my understanding if you are not, and that would be all sects of Judaism. That being said, many reform rabbis will do marriages that are considered interfaith. A bar mitzvah is a Jewish rite of passage, not a requirement to be married in a temple, unlike taking all of the Catholic sacraments to be married in the Catholic church

I was just wondering ????? What did you and DH do ?? It seems that it was the same thing right ?? Just opposite ? How were you married ? Or was it easier because DH is jewish and so was his mother so he was acknowledged by the temple? Just curious?
