Questions about cereal, sippy's and food amounts...
She used to LOVE her cereal, but lately she's been clamming up once we start to give it to her. She'll eat her baby food~ just not the cereal. This is OK, right?
In regards to her baby food, she'll eat almost a whole jar/tub of the stage 2. She doesn't finish it, but will eat most. That's an "ok" amount I assume, or should I "push" for more (not nurse her beforehand, give her more time in her high chair, etc).
How did you all transition to the sippy? We let DD play with hers and she's sipped from it a few times, but loses interest quickly. I'm assuming we don't want to make this a battle, but how did you all do it?
Wow~ such changes at this age! DD is 7 months....
TY!

Re: Questions about cereal, sippy's and food amounts...
OK Ds will not take the sippy, no matter which version of it I try, so I unfortunately I am no help there.
regarding the cereal, I only give it to DS once a day with his morning bottle. Ped said this was OK as long as I maintained his fruits & veggies. He (now) gets 3 full jars of fruits/veggies a day, and is doing quite well.
ETA: Ped said this is normal once they become accustomed to the taste of the fruits & veggies, since the cereal is bland and has a strange texture.

Re: Questions about cereal, sippy's and food amounts...
I would try to mix a little cereal in with her baby food. At that age, the cereal is given for it's nutritional content....all kind of vitamins and minerals, including iron.
One jar of food is not a bad amount for a meal. How many ounces is the jar that you are referring to? My DD was never a big eater and still is not at 15 months.
I did what you did with the sippy. I let her play with it at the age and she would sip here and there. When she wasn't paying much attention, I would put it up to her mouth and she would sip not even realizing that she was. By 10 months, she was taking it on her own and we transitioned her to the sippy at 11 months. Some babies have a more difficult time transitioning but I felt like DD was ready. Good luck!!

Re: Questions about cereal, sippy's and food amounts...
Thanks for the replies. It's interesting because she LOVED cereal. But last week she suddenly started gagging on it (maybe too thick?) and now she fusses when I try to give it to her- even if it's thin.
I mix BM with it so it should be sweet. I'll try mixing it with her jarred food.
The jarred food is 3.5-4oz, depending on the brand (Natures Own and Gerber Organics).
TY again!

With the cereal, the main reason they need it is the iron. I am assuming if you are still BFing then DD is getting enough iron through your milk, so I wouldn't push the cereal issue.
I would say almost finishing a stage 2 food is probably enough. DS finishes a whole one, and is content from that, so she might not be as big of an eater. I wouldn't cut out nursing to try to give more solids, but that is just my personal opinion, it isn't based on any kind of facts
As for the sippy, we just put water in it and let DS play with it. It took a little bit for him to actually drink from it, and he still isn't perfect but he sips. Have you tried the Gerber Sippy Cups that have an angled neck to make it easier to drink from?
