Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
Mine did! It was 5AM and I got up to pee, and when you're 9 mos preggo, very little pee comes out, so when I had what I thought was a HUGE pee...I realized "uh oh!" This must be it! Used a pad and went to the hospital upon my docs reco, Ihad no contractions or pain.....thought I was going home, DS was born 9 hours and barely any labor later......

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
My water broke naturally.
Where were you? At home.
Gush or Trickle? Tinkle
Did you freak out or just think, okay this is happening? A little of both. I called the obgyn. Took a shower. Called DH and said come home now.
Did you contract first or break water first? Water broke first.
How soon after did active labor start? It broke at 5:30. I was at the hospital at 6:30. I was already 7 cm and 100% effaced. I apparently made it all the way to transition before I felt any contractions - this was at 9:30. I was 10 cm and 100% effaced. DS was breech and I had a c/s at 10. DS was born a little after 10:30 pm. As an aside I was 0 and 0 the day before.
What did you do on your way to the hospital? Load up with pads, towel, pillow, let it run down your legs? I put a couple of towels under me to sit in the car, but we have leather seats so I was not as concerned. It did not run down my pants because I was a slow leak.

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
Where were you?
1st time: I was staying at my mom's house since our wood floors were being refinished.
2nd time: At home - middle of the night
Gush or Trickle? 1st time: I woke up and thought, why does it feel like I am peeing? I quickly realized what was happening and as soon as I made it to the bathroom, I had a gush. After the initial gush, it turned to a slow leak, so I just used a pad.
2nd time: Big gush followed by MANY more gushes. Even when I was in L & D I was still gushing for quite some time. Much worse than the first time. The pad was pretty much useless, my pants and the towel I sat on in the car were soaked.
Did you freak out or just think, okay this is happening?
Both times I was completely calm and went into this is happening mode.
Did you contract first or break water first?
1st time: I didn't have any contractions for a few hours. Then they stopped until they gave me pitocin the next morning. Never progressed and ended up with a C-section.
2nd time: Contractions started about 2 hours later. I showered and so did DH before we went to the hospital.
Also, I think that I read somewhere that it is much more common to have your water break at night (it did both times for me).

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
Mine broke at the hospital on its own about 15 mins after my 1st internal exam. I was in their L&D triage waiting to be brought to an L&D room. Honestly it was kind of embarrassing. I never heard a pop or anything just all of a sudden - warm wet fluids. It was kind of b.c I thought maybe I had peed. It wasn't what I had expected.

Did you freak out or just think, okay this is happening? Was calm at first, then, when the trickling kept going, freaked out..LOL
Did you contract first or break water first? Water broke. I never had contractions. Was induced, ended up with a C Section the next day.
How soon after did active labor start? Never really went into active labor.

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
I was at home trying to go to sleep. I was having contractions for a while and had one really bad one and felt liquid come out I wasn't 100% it was my water breaking b/c I had been losing my plug all day (sorry for the TMI) - mine wasn't a gush - it started like that and just continued to come out. I put on a huge pad that I had bought for after giving birth and kept changing that. I gave birth about 6 hours later...but i was still leaking continually up until then

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
Well, I don't know if this is technically naturally, but I was induced and it broke on it's own.
I had been having mildish contraction (like a bad period) for a little while before hand.
I felt as if a balloon popped inside me then a warm gush of "water". I turned to my DH and said, I think my water just broke. He went to get the nurse and she didn't believe me. Turns out I was right all along.

Where were you? At home. I had just gotten up and was walking to the bathroom.
Gush or Trickle? Trickle
Did you freak out or just think, okay this is happening? Not really. I went to the bathroom, also noticed spotting, went back to bed and laid down for 30 mins., got up again and it trickled harder. Called my OB and he told me to come in to the hospital.
Did you contract first or break water first? I started to get cramping after the trickle episode.
How soon after did active labor start? A few hours when I was at the hospital in my L&D room.
ETA: What did you do on your way to the hospital? Load up with pads, towel, pillow, let it run down your legs? I took a shower, used huge pads and waited for my DH to get home so we could go to the hospital. I sat on a chuck and a towel in the car on the way. The ride is 15 mins. so it wasn't bad. Actually, DH and I sang Neil Diamond songs the whole way... it was an awesome memory!

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
I woke up to regular (5 min apart) contractions at 2 am. I also realized I was losing my mucous plug. I took a shower and got dressed to go for a walk. I figured if my contractions stayed like this I'd call my doc around 7-730. Contractions moved to 3 minutes. I was sitting on the edge of my bed, I leaned over to tie my shoe and heard and felt a "pop" had a trickle on my way to the bathroom (about 10 steps) and then a gush of clear odorless fluid. Another big gush with the next contraction. I called doc and we headed to hospital (of course in am rush hour traffic). I put 2 towels under me in the car and wore an overnight maxi pad. I didn't actually leak at all out of that pad. My clothes and the towels stayed totally dry.

You rarely hear it happening in the grocery store anymore so just curious how many here actually had their water break naturally on its own.

I was in bed, sleeping. It was a small trickle.....like I was peeing on myself , and not constant. I didn't realize it was my water that had broken, so I didn't freak out. Actually, I showered and went on LIF for a little while before I even called the doctor to ask about it. I had no natural contractions. Labor started once they gave me Pitocin in the hospital. I went to the hospital in the shorts and t-shirt I was wearing that day - nothing special. It didn't gush out of me, it was still trickling every now and again. And I didn't know it was my water, so I didn't think to protect the seat.

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
Where were you?
At home....4 AM walking upstairs for my normal early morning tinkle!!! I THOUGHT I peed in mu jammies which answers....
Gush or Trickle?.....Trickle!!! I thought I peed myself!! It was just enough that I figured it was my bladder giving out!!
Did you freak out or just think, okay this is happening?
No freak outs because I had no clue!! I went back to bed, got up at 7, showered, shaved, blew my hair out & went to work!!
Did you contract first or break water first? Water broke first. I had my first contraction about 9:30AM and then every 1/2 hour after that.....BUT did not think they were contractions! I thought it was cramping because they came & went so fast, within like 10 seconds.
How soon after did active labor start?
I went home early because I was uncomfortable & my coworker (a nurse during the week and she worked Saturdays with me for extra $$) insisted she was timing my contractions at every 1/2 an hour.....I blew it off but went home cause at 39 weeks and 4 days I had not taken a single day off or left early from work AT ALL.....so I felt entitled to leave early that day since I was feeling yucky!!!!! And by yucky I was apparantly also loosing my mucus plug & had no clue TMI maybe but it was very clear & sticky like eggs whites so I thought I was having a discharge of some kind
About 2 PM I was home and then active labor started! So it was like 10 hours after my water broke that active labor started I guess. The contractions were about every 5 minutes but only about 10 -15 seconds long. At the Dr.'s advice I stayed home.....but at 6 PM called again and since he was at the hospital I went in.
6 hours after getting there (at midnight) it was time to push and not until about 1am when they could see the top of DS's head did they comment my water had not broken yet & there was nothing there to break!!! That is when the AHA moment happened for me & realized I had not peed my jammies at 4 AM!!

Where were you? Home. It was midnight I got up to go to the bathroom, it broke when i was climbing back into bed
Gush or Trickle? Gush, then trickled all over the place.
Did you freak out or just think, okay this is happening? I got REALLY excited to know my baby is coming.
Did you contract first or break water first? Water
How soon after did active labor start? Well, I got my first contraction in the car on the way to the hospital 30 min after my water broke. I never made it into active labor bc I needed an emerg c section
ETA: What did you do on your way to the hospital? Load up with pads, towel, pillow, let it run down your legs?
It wasnt trickling too bad so I threw an overnight pad on, we put a towel down on the seat of the car but it never went through my pants.

Re: Raise your hand if your water broke naturally. *New Question Added!*
It did with my son.
I got up at 5am to pee and then I went back to bed and laid back down there was a pop and a gush. I did freak out because I was still 3 weeks away from my due date but I knew exactly what was happening. I went back to the bathroom and set on the toilet letting the fluid run down. In a few minutes the flow turned into a trickle, I put on underwear and with a pad and went to wake up DH. I used 2 pads for the car ride and it was fine.
We got to the hospital at around 7am and my contractions still didn't start. The residents were pushing pitocin on me but I refused. By 10am the contractions started on their own and at 5:08pm my son was born!
P.S. I see that a lot of people had the same scenario as me: got up to pee in the wee hours of the morning and their water broke as soon as they got back to bed. Interesting!

My water broke while I was at the hospital. I was having contractions for about 4 hours before and my water broke on the table. It was a huge gush. My DS was born about two hours later.
