Recommend a Suffolk town - close to Nassau
DH & I are deciding if we should consider moving out a little further east instead of blowing out our home in the next few years. We are currently in a cape w/ no basement - a sacrifice we made for the location. But now that we have DS we realize that was a BIG mistake (to sacrifice a basement). Can you recommend a town with a great SD that's not too far from Nassau where we can get a little more bang for our buck? Maybe a little land (right now we're on 60x100). TIA

I think the Babylon area is very nice, also west babylon
I agree about a basement, Its a very nice feature to have, especially with DS

We close in Greenlawn tomorrow and we're very excited! Like yourself, we wanted to stay in Nassau, but we just got a bigger house, less taxes and a better school district than we would have gotten in Nassau on our budget. we are in the Elwood SD.

It's just amazing what a half of million + dollars does NOT get you in Nassau. It sounds like a lot of $$ (at least to me it does!) but nothing in the towns we like.
I also work in NYC too, so I have to consider if we did move out to Suffolk, if I'd continue working in the city.

Re: Recommend a Suffolk town - close to Nassau
- love Plainview and the Plainview-Old Bethpage SD has a good reputation
- Northport
- Manhasset
- Port Washington
- Huntington Bay or Huntington Village
- Centerport
- Commack
- Saint James
- Smithtown
Really depends on how far outside of Nassau County you're open to -- is there a cap on what exit off the LIE you're willing to travel from?
What price range are you looking at?

Anything around Huntington would probably work best. Huntington train station has an express and gets you into Penn in less then an hour in the morning. I like that station too because the 7:09 was sitting in the station waiting to leave so no waiting on a cold or wet platform and always finding a seat.

Re: Recommend a Suffolk town - close to Nassau
close to nassau, north shore and great SD
- cold spring hills (cold spring harbor is gorgeous but too $$$) - greenlawn or centerport (harborfields SD) - northport or east northport
not suffolk but oyster bay is really nice
grew up in huntington and love the town but the SD is not as desirable as it used to be
