Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
We transitioned Jordan to crib 12 days ago. It has not gotten any better. We are beyond exhausted. I have a wedge under the crib but he just moves off of it and ends up flat. I am sure that part of why he is waking up multiple times is because he is flat and his reflux bothers him.
Any advice? I wish there was a way I could keep him "up" on the wedge - although I don't know how much it would help anyway. He was higher up in the swing.
I can't imagine that it's suddenly going to improve being that it's as bad on night 12 as it was on night 1.
Thanks

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
I had him in the swing ever since like 2 months old and unfortunately he's STILL in a swing at basically 1 years old (he turns 1 on saturday) he falls asleep much better and quicker in the swing and now i transfer him over to the crib but the swing was my lifesaver. we even went on vacation when he was 6 months and obviously didn't have a swing, well it was a nightmare! he got up all of the time and he's been STTN since 2 months old

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
Look online for a reflux sling. It's a wedge with an attachment for the baby to stay in so he doesn't slide flat.

Can you elevate the mattress? Maybe even use the wedge to do it.

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
My DS had really bad reflux issues & I almost bought the Nap Nanny b/c I read good reviews online. Maybe try that? They sell it on amazon or buy buy baby.

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
To answer your posts -
I had to take him out of the swing due to torticollis and flat head issues. He was too confined in there - I know it would be better for his reflux and more comforting for him - but I had to take him out
I would think that elevating mattress would be same as wedge - he would just slide down?
Reflux sling - have to go search - where did you find that please?????? Maybe I can return the wedge - all I do is buy things and return them
I'm very interested in the Nap Nanny, but it's sooo expensive and the point is that I would eventually have to transition him out of that as well. Also, because of his flat head, prop him on his side to sleep (he eventually moves but is at least is on his side for a portion of the night) and it doesn't seem to me that I could do that with the nap nanny.
Thanks so much, ladies! And Linda, thanks for bumping

I elevate the mattress when ds has a cold (as ped recommended)and haven't had an issue. Even if he scooted don a little hour was still elevated because there isn't anything to slide off of.
Also I have heard getting them out of nap nanny when its time is a real problem. Hope you find the answer that works and give your DC some relief

Thank you. I guess he's too mobile at this point - he comes completely down off the wedge and it's not even THAT much of an incline. Theses reflux slings look great but like I said, expensive!

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
Would you consider belly sleeping? DD is only 2 mos and her reflux is pretty mild, but I'm starting to let her sleep on her belly. I started with naps on the couch next to me, then went to naps in the bassinett and now have started letting her sleep at night next to me in the bassinett. She sleeps thru the night on her belly.

Or what about something like the papasan chair? Maybe you could get one cheap on here or at once upon a child?

We're starting oatmeal cereal in two weeks when he is 5 months old - he's been getting it in the bottle but will start it regular on a spoon. They had wanted to wait until the 5 month mark to start any sort of solids because of his milk protein allergy.

We have one and I love it. I guess the whole thing is they don't want him in something like that - swing, carseat, etc anymore because of his torticollis and flat head.

I think this will help - I've noticed an improvement in DD's sleeping and reflux since solids. Get an oatmeal with probiotics - they're supposed to be great for all kinds of tummy issues. I wish I had more advice.

Oh...I thought maybe b/c it was softer that a swing or carseat. Poor little man! I know how hard it is to see your LO uncomfortable and I know how hard it is to not get any sleep yourself

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
The only thing that really helped for my DD and her reflux, I think, was keeping her upright after feeding (me holding her on my shoulder). Exhausting at night, but really seemed to help her. Then, when she was sitting on her own (6 months) and rolling and sleeping on her belly, the reflux overall seemed to get better, we took her off zantac and now at 8 months she is like a new child. She always had silent reflux though (not a spitting up issue).

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
I keep him upright after he gets all his bottles as well as the bedtime bottle, but I'm not going to lie - I don't do it for more than a few minutes at 3 am or 4 am - I can't - I'm literally asleep in the glider.

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
I use to keep the twins in proped up on their boppys, or on their newborn lounger pillows. They were not rolling at that point
and I know that I sound like a broken record but I stopped feeding them in the middle of the night to prevent the reflux. It took me 4 days of training and soothing but I broke them of the habit of eating at night.
Additionally I am NOT trying to be funny but in Austrailia, they make a wedge that you can velcro your kid to. it was designed by a Austrailian doctor. My husband and I looked it up and decided that that option was not for us.
I truly wish you a good night's sleep. You deserve it.

This is what I do for DS, I roll a small blanket and wedge it under the mattress. DS sleeps great.

Thank you!!! Go look at my other post - I found an AR pillow with a harness that sounds exactly like that!
He has some eating issues and barely eats sometimes during the day. He dropped a lot on the weight charts. Because of that, the ped said to feed him at night if he is hungry - sometimes that's the most he eats.

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
I remember those days....DS suffered with reflux and was on Elecare and Zantac until we learned about ped. chiropractic care. He has been med free ever since we started weekly adjustments. I was at the end of my rope with all the medications and began looking for a natural alternative and learned about the reflux/chiro conncection....and DS is now a happy healthy 2 year old. Would you consider chiro? Our Dr. is in Huntington (Jericho Tpke) and I can highly reccommend him.

Re: Reflux Mommies - Sleeping Help
I actually just found the AR pillow on Craiglist - someone is selling it for $25 vs the $60 the "basic" model costs. They live around 40 minutes away from me but I'm going to check it out!
Thanks for all the hugs and support!
