Reflux Mommies... Gastro? Sorry a little long
How did u know that you child had refulx? I really think that my older twin has refulx and although I'm not a huge believer in giving them meds for just anything this poor child seems to be suffering.
Its a viscous cycle. She cries because she is hungry. So I feed her, then mid bottle she starts wrestling with the bottle and crying but still wants to drink her milk since she is hungry. After she finally finishes it (being burped several times during the feeding) she burps again and spits up several times. I keep her up for at least 20-25 minutes after her bottle and she is still in some discomfort. Once I put her down she falls asleep for a bit then wakes up screaming... i pick her up, she spits up and calms down.... by the time this is all said and done with the poor girl is crying again cuz its time for her to eat again. To me it def sounds like refulx and its making her very uncofortable. I know they say that if she is not loosing weight dont worry but I can watch her suffer anymore. This Friday I have an appt with the girls at a pediatric Gastro for another reason but I am going to bring this up.
What can I expect? How do they determine if its reflux or not? What meds do they usually put these little ones on?
Also how do they determine if the babies have a milk protein allergy? that's the original reason for going to the gastro...

Re: Reflux Mommies... Gastro? Sorry a little long
DS was diagnosed with a MPA and a soy allergy at 3 weeks old. Reflux goes hand in hand with the allergies. He fought me through every feeding. Arching his back, screaming, fighting feedings was the sign he gave me... He was put on Zantac and he was a new kid in a few days... Testing for a milk protein allergy is easy. Just bring a poopy diaper to the gastro dr. They can test it right there. If she needs medication, it will be the best for her. No point in her suffering. DS was on Zantac until 5 months old and the Axid until This past June.. (20 month old) but he still has a soy allergy so he needed the one dose he was getting.

Thank you for your response. My girls are currently on the Alimentum Formula as per their ped. because they had constant diarrhea on the regular formula. Will they still be able to check a dirty diaper if they are already off regular formula?
