Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
All I know is you need a prescription from your doctor for one. That would probably be the best place to start!

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
I didn't get one. I know I would have driven myself crazy checking for the heartbeat and getting very upset if I couldn't locate it. For me, this would have been a disaster in the making. I worried so much the first 20 weeks as it was!

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
We got ours from Stork radio.. and it cost 49.00 for one month.. totally worth it to us. We just returned it and I would do it again.
You call up stork radio and than they will do everything with your Dr.. just give them the fax number.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
Will they only prescribe one if there is a problem with the pregnancy? Good thinking though...I might also get nervous if I couldn't hear anything.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
No you don't have to have a problem.. we got ours just for fun.
You will hear something as early as 8 weeks.. they are very strong.. if you don't than something might be wrong and I would rather know anyway.. that is just me.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
My dr suggested not getting one, because it can be hard to find the HB and cause unneccessary panic and worry. She said she's had a few patients run to the emergency room cause they couldn't find the HB, when nothing was wrong.
Also, during my PG my Drs and some of the labor nurses had a hard time finding the HB, so its not always that easy with the doppler.
And, during the later months (i think it was starting month 6 or 7) DH could hear the HB himself when he pressed his ear to my stomach.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
I didn't bother either.
My midwife said that it would be more difficult for me to find a heartbeat since I had a tilted uterus.
And I just didn't think spending money on aggravation, frustration, and worry was really worth it.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
I borrowed one from a friend and never had a hard time finding the HB and that was at about 14 weeks. If I wasn't able to borrow that one I probably would've rented one and next time I probably will. It brought me such peace of mind.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
I rented mine from BabyBeat.com and it's great. I think it came out to around $140 for 6 months. SO worth it. They asked for my OB's name BUT I didn't need a prescription to get it . I ordered it online on a Thursday night and it was on my doorstep Friday afternoon. I LOVE that thing, it keeps me sane in these weeks where I don't have anymore symptoms and I can't feel the baby moving yet.

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
My sister bought one so I just used hers. It was a lifesaver for me. Whenever I was worried I just checked the hb and felt better instead of having to wait weeks for my next dr. appointment. I used it from 12 week - ~20 weeks. Once I started feeling the baby move regularly I didn't need it. I NEVER had a hard time finding the heartbeat. It did nmot cause any stress for in, it only relieved stress. I highly recommend it!

Re: Renting a Fetal Doppler
I rented mine from www.heartones.com - a digital one and it was the best. You don't need a script for it either.
