returning a leased car
This is my first time returning a leased car. It goes back in 2 months and yesterday some dumb a$$ broke into my car. They didn't take anything but besides the broken window, they also scratched up the top part of the door panel. I was told that the whole door panel will have to be replaced but the guy feels that when returning the car that they wont bother me about it. (yes, this is the mechanic telling me that I really don't have to replace it) I plan on getting another car from the same dealer.
What are the chances that they will bother me about the door panel?

it's just a scratch?
and you would have to replace the door panel?
my rims were pretty messed up
and I sure there was more
the sales guy walked around the car once and said it looks good
but I also just told him I wanted to buy a new one....that helps

Re: returning a leased car
On the top part on the inside door panel it looks as if when the glass broke they might have tried to slide into the car. so the top of the door panel looks as if it was slid across concrete. (does that make sense?)

Re: returning a leased car
if you are planning on getting another car from them- I doubt they will care
the guy seriously looked at my car for less then 1 minute
make sure you mention that you want another car first- I think he was so happy I was buying a car from him at 10am on a saturday- he wasn't going to do anything to stop the sale

Re: returning a leased car
all banks are different. some waive a certain amount upon the end of a lease. they will charge you more to fix it rather then someone else fixing it unless you try to dispute it (which is hard cause the car may already be gone)
how much is the full price to fix the car, how much is your insurance deductible?
some banks will waive fees if you purchase or lease again...it really depends..call bank, call dealer where you may be buying again (if you are getting the same make car)

Re: returning a leased car
Do you think the scratches can be compounded out or are they threw the paint?
If they can be compounded out, I can do it for you. Let me know. Scott

Re: returning a leased car
Does your car need to have an end of term inspection. I did mine a month before the lease was up and I was told about damages etc. I didn't have much so i was covered by the terms with my bank.

Re: returning a leased car
what kind of car is it? Honda gives you $1500 towards any normal wear & tear I think.... and if you are buying another it should be OK.

Same thing happened to me. The week before I was supposed to hand the car in it was sideswiped in my work parking lot. I was beyond ****** and very very upset but Chevy said not to worry and just took it from me. I was also getting another car too from them so i guess because of that it wasn't an issue. But if you plan on not getting another one from there you might have to fix everything.

Re: returning a leased car
It depends - who is the loan from? Is it from the automaker (like Chevy, VW, Toyota. etc) or through a bank (like Chase, BoA, etc.). IF it is through the automaker's banke and you are getting another car from them, you can probably get damages waived. If it is though a bank, you will most likely have to pay. My last lease they were going to charge a ridiculous amt of money for the stupidest little thing ( a toyota but the loan through chase) so I would up keeping and financing the car - it wasn't worth the $ to turn it in.
