The generalizations about liberals, conservatives, and Christians all seem quite productive.

Perhaps if children were educated in schools about the variety of religions--and were exposed to the language of cultures--we would all understand each other better.

The word PC is so over and misused that it doesn't really have a meaning any more. While I have no problem with a Christmas Village in the mall, I have heard too many people on social media act as though inclusion of other traditions or acting as though Christmas ISN'T the default is tantamount to a "war" on Christianity.

Not sure why "happy holidays" or a red cup bothers so many people. It's easy to cry "PC" (whatever that means) when you're in the majority/default, and you always have been.

Also not sure why snowflakes on a cup made it a "Christmas" cup instead of a "winter" or even a "holiday" cup, but that's another story....

It says right there it was created because it did offend some people.

No where in the that article does it say the RF did it because Christmas Trees were offensive.... some dude named Kevin (who is boycotting RF) was interviewed and thats what he said...

Andplusalso it's the Daily Mail. Great for celeb gossip, but real stories don't exist in this paper.

This whole thing is ridiculous. Don't like the Santa display? Don't go. Don't like Starbucks red cups? Don't drink it.

People need to relax. No one is taking Xmas away. Do whatever it is you do with your families.

LOL the Daily Mail is about as credible as Donald Trumps presidential campaign.

I don't think we'll ever know the full reason why the "glacier display" was introduced this year but I personally thought it was ugly. That was my only issue with it. If I am taking my kids to see Santa, I want them to enjoy the scenery, the Christmas trees, the magic. Their new display looked so boring and sterile and I would not take my children there for their photos

Did anyone ask kids what they thought?

Honestly, all these adults at each other's throats for something geared primarily toward children.

I think Santa could be on a park bench and kids wouldn't care about lack of decorations or WHAT they called the tree. They would either be overjoyed that Santa was there, or scream in terror like my kid.

I was there before they changed it. Kids were hugging Santa, taking pictures with him, talking to him, and runnin around the display, laughing and smiling. They didn't give two shits how ugly it was. They were there to see Santa and tell him what they wanted.

And you know what it's he middle of November.

It's the holiday season. Some people like to celebrate it for for more than one day. Is that so bad. For people to be i the holiday spirit?

Nobody is saying you have to walk around with jingle bells around your neck 24/7

But I rather be surrounded by that then grinches who can't wait for January

I am far from a grinch. I just like to celebrate one holiday at a time. I happen to love thanksgiving because its not so commercial. Its about family togetherness and no gifts.
And in the last 20 years Thanksgiving has gotten lost because Christmas starts the day after Halloween. And trust me, that's not beause people suddenly want to celebrate and get in the spirit earlier than they did 20 years ago. It's because the retail stores want people to start spending earlier so they spend more. It's all about the Benjamins. Not holiday spirit. Christmas spirit has been lost to the almighty dollar.
In another 20 years Santa will be in the malls and people will be putting up their lights right after Labor Day if it keeps getting earlier like this. And by Dec 25th everyone is sick of it and can't wait to rip their trees down.
And as far as people who can't wait for January, actually that's not me either. I actually can't wait for June. That's the season I look forward to most. I decorate for 4th of July in May. To enjoy my favorite holiday a little longer.

I don't understand the big deal with the Starbucks cups. I often buy solid red and/or green cups, napkins, etc when I have a holiday party. It's not like they're using purple cups.

FWIW, I showed my 12yo DS the two displays from the pics on-line, and he said he liked the cool Aurora Borealis glacier display better. He like that it looked cooler than the old display.

And my 7 yr old DD (who actually still believes in Santa unlike a 12 yr old) thought it was ugly and asked why Santa had no Xmas decorations around him. Younger kids aren't looking for some futuristic Santa, they like the traditional depictions of Xmas at that age.............it's what they know.

But did she see it in person? There were interactive displays and lights that were not seen in the fb pictures. It could have kept kids interested while waiting on the long lines to see Santa.

No, but I know her. She's not a kid who likes things changed or different. With everything, not just Xmas, she likes what she knows. That's just her personality.

I think EVERYONE on this thread can just agree, some thought it was cool, others thought it was ugly. For myself, I don't care if rained down snowflakes while kids were on line, it was ugly and there was nothing festive about it. At this point, 50 pages into this thread, we should all just agree to disagree on this topic because nobody is changing anyone else's mind on the matter.

Who's "judging"? That's fairly rare though. Most kids by 4th-5th grade have stopped believing. 11-12 yrs old to still believe, while sweet, isn't that common. Usually by that age someone has blown it out of the water for them.

ETA - I hope my kids believe that long but I'd be surprised if they do.

I know for a fact that Tanger did this because a good friend worked there and told me personally that they HAD to open or get fined.

If they don't like it and they are not American, then get out.

Well that escalated quickly.

How on earth is that relevant to a discussion about a mall Santa?

Because being American is accepting all cultures and religion. If anyone has a problem with it, they are not American. How is that so hard to understand?

Then follow your own advice and start being accepting of other cultures and religions!

You guys are really dense.

I was upset because the display was changed over people being "offended" by Christmas.

I am accepting of other cultures and religions which is WHY I am upset about how they changed the display. It's mind boggling how lame people are nowadays. The PC bull**** and whatnot.

Years ago, you could be a Republican and a Democrat and be best friends. Nowadays, people unfriend people over this crap. It's ridiculous.

Nowhere in my statement am I not being accepting of other people. I did mention though that "liberal" America probably created this. As they are up in arms over the Pledge of Alegience, holidays, Mount Rushmore, In God We Trust and other things. It's so absurd and ridiculous how people are today and easily offended over every little ridiculous thing.

You're right...I am dense.

I'm a Democrat who believes in climate change Chat Icon

Yep, still dense because you are missing the point and putting insult words in my mouth. I am done here because no one can understand various points. Merry Christmas! Chat Icon

I believe the PC term is Happy Holidays

I am not PC. Thank God.

I am because I like to make sure all are included. I guess I'm just too nice. What a terrible thing to be!

I guess I just don't see what's wrong with it.

You missed what I said previously- When we were children, we were taught of all the holidays. Now it's like you have to be PC and wipe out Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc because it is goddamn offensive. So maybe you aren't as "PC" as you think? I am the one that said previously that this needs to stop. All should be recognized and accepted. All should be learned in the schools. We had international day growing up. We learned of Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus- we learned everything. I bet now they don't even do that. Most of you on here have the misconception that all conservatives are into themselves and not accepting of all cultures. That is BS considering I am considered a "minority"... Hispanic, Caucasian and *GASP* Arabic too! You cannot lump all conservatives and Christians in one category and say they are hypocrites, etc. It's not fair and a cheap shot. I am seeing nothing but cheap shots in this thread. And I could give a sh*t less about the red cups. They are festive enough. Just don't mess with my Christmas.

Avoiding all side debated here but I have a question

From a photographic standpoint, isn't that a very plain and harsh looking scene for picture? I read that Simon said they weren't fully done with the display - but from my understanding, they were charging people for pics already?

The concept of a light show and all sounds really neat - but when it's not lit up or what have you, I would imagine any pics would be very blah, no?

The whole thing was a bad idea. Christmas pictures are about Santa, elves, Christmas tree, presents etc. IMO they did it to make Christmas less identifiable w Christians, probably to make more money thinking maybe other faiths would take pics w Santa? I don't know but it was dumb

why would someone from another faith want a picture with Santa? why would they want one in a normal christmas setting with a tree, or on a glacier with an aurora borealis?
