Runners: Where do you run your long runs?

I need to run 9 miles this weekend and due to Irene i need to do that and all my other errands on Saturday. Usually i will venture into the city and run in CP but that is out of the question this weekend. I need a good place to go to run my miles

I am located in nassua and will travel. i was thinking about eisenhower park but I have never run there before and i am nervous the running path is not long enough and I will end up wasting lots of energy making up my own route.

The thought of running through my streets at home gives me major anxierty.

where do you run yours?

I've been running through town to Sunken Meadow park, and then running the XC trails there, then the boardwalk, then running home. I like it bc there are lots of runners there in the early morning and a lot of changes in scenery between the roads, trails, boardwalk. I am in Smithtown though.

I do mine many times at the Massapequa preserve. The beginning entrance is off of Sunrise Highway!

I used to run exclusively in Eisenhower Park. I pretty much made up my own route and it became easy after awhile. You end up going in a big circle though. I liked that there were a couple of small hills as well. Plus there are bathrooms and water fountains.

The bike path in Massapequa's nature preserve is 7 miles each way. To get 9 miles in, you'd have to cross two streets but cars will stop for you. I run there from my house but you can park at the train station in Massapequa.

I don't run further than 6.5 miles really, but to make it longer I would do the same and run from where I live into Sunken Meadow. I run in the park often.

Is this the one to Bethpage State Park?? That's a nice run.

I usually run from my house though. I have different length loops that I combine, so I'm always close to home. I think this comes from being stung by a wasp and wanting to pass out while I walked home...LOL

I just run by my house. My DH and I sometimes go to the bike path by our house.

If you are referring to the preserve in Massapequa...
Due to the length of the path, there are several points where you can join it. If you want to run its full length, you should start at the Bethpage State Park parking lot that is close to the picnic grounds toward the northern end of the park.

Bethpage Bike Path

Or you can park at the Massapequa Train Station, Broadway and Sunrise. Park north of Sunrise as far east as possible. You'll see other runners and cyclists, I'm sure Chat Icon

I do most of my long runs at Hecksher State Park in EI. It's near where I grew up so I've always been very comfortable there. The scenery is nice, trees and the bay, and there are not too many cars. Most of my other runs I do in my neighborhood and hill work I do in Pt. Jeff near St. Charles.

you can actually start this route from merrick road in massapequa. while it's annoying to cross sunrise, it adds an extra mile to the course. my parent's live right by this entrance, so it's my go to run when i visit.

Luckily we got a circular park with a circular path for joggers. The path is of approximate 1.5 miles. So I do 4 rounds to complete 6 miles and 6 rounds to complete 9 miles.

Re: Runners: Where do you run your long runs?

Caumsett State park is where I do mine. It's right by my house so I usually run there and then run the loop. The loop is 3 miles so sometimes I drive there and just run it a few times. There are always people around so I feel safe and they have bathrooms/fountains that I can fill up my fuel belt which is nice.
