Re: s/o to note on car..
If he's "old" he might have a problem pulling in and out of his driveway (vision problems, neck problems, who knows) which is why he parks in front of his own house.
As for when people visit, who knows. My mom parks in front of her house and has a driveway with no cars in it but for other reasons. When I come to visit, if it's for less then 10 min, or if I'm loading things in and out, I'll park in front of her house. If it's for longer I'll pull in the driveway. My mom also only parks in her driveway now only when it's going to snow or for some other random reason.
As for other people (ex, a home healthaid), if I were them I wouldn't park in their driveway either. I do weekly in-home family therapy and if the family had a driveway I would NEVER even think of parking in someone's driveway. It's only for an hour so it's not a big deal to me.

Re: s/o to note on car..
Yes!!! This happens to us as well. While our neighbor has a right to park on the street where he wants, we cannot for the life of us understand why he parks where he does. Right in front of our driveway. He has 100 feet of curb and a 2 car driveway, but prefers to park on the opposite side of our driveway so it makes it difficult for us to get out of our driveway. In ice and snow-drives us bonkers because we can't prevent our car from slipping on ice and crashing into his car.
He also puts his tree leaves and yard waste in that spot as well. So, now we put OUR leaves and yard waste on the opposite side of HIS driveway. He's a weird old man.

Re: s/o to note on car..
when we rented an apt in someone's house we were parking our cars across the street from someone's driveway. There really was no where else to park. One day I was parking and the woman that lived there pulled up next to me and asked me to park so I'm not directly across from her driveway. I thought it was pretty rude. She doesn't own the whole damn street. In her defense, she was a horrible driver and she probably did me a favor because she was bound to ram into my car one of these days.

It would never bother me in that situation but all I am say is she can basically park anywhere on the block and her father has a driveway but she constantly parks directly across from my driveway..that's why it's a pain.

It wouldn't bother me at all, unless she was physically blocking my driveway. I know it sucks for you, but she is entitled to park anywhere on the street. I definitely wouldn't say anything about this, but then again, like I said, it wouldn't bother me.

I'd just back into their car, problem solved, I'm sure.

annoying as it may be there is no entitlement when it comes to street territory. Nothing you can do without coming off badly.
