Look at levittown - - $140,000.00 for a new office for Dr. Sirois? C'mon people, they are up to no good just like every other politician. They misuse the money. just like a previous poster said. It's corruption.
Not that I'm defending that a $140,000 office is necessary, but Dr. Sirois has really done a lot for that district, he is a longtime employee and helped it out of troubled times. I don't think a CEO of any company of 500 employees would accept an office with holes inthe carpet and not touched since the 1980's. They will need to fill Sirois' position eventually. Also, Sirois made a point that his office was low priority and that other renovations take place first. When the office was started, the economy was in a MUCH different place.
I do agree that some superintendents are corrupt, but not all.

You can not compare a public servant to a CEO.
If they want to be treated like CEO's they should go out and work in the private sector.

Re: School Budget vote -
The district I work in and the district my parents live in all passed (Nassau).
DH and I are buying a house in Elwood and it passed.
As a teacher, i am sympathetic to the needs of the schools. it pays my salary and my benefits, so i can't fight the hand that feeds me and I see all the good things happening in my school fro the kids......
but at the same time, my poor parents, who worked all their lives may have to sell the home they worked so hard to build from the ground up because they just can't afford the taxes...and their house is a normal sized house in a now "less-desirable" district. DH and I had to move farther than we wanted to and will be busting our butts to stay on LI....

I am not saying that he didn't do good things for the district. But, does he need a state of the art bathroom and washer and dryer in his office? Charge the tax payers for the water he uses. He can go home and sleep just like everyone else does and do his laundry there. Mis-appropration of money. Sorry.
PS- I grew up in Levittown, I made it through Austerity, so did all the other kids. My kids want to play sports, i'll pay for them to do so, you shouldn't have to.

Well put! Thank you for serving our students. Even though i don't like my taxes going up, i certainly do respect the profession of teaching.

I agree $140K is alot, but you also have to put yourself back into the time when the budget was passed - houses were increasing at record pace and times were good.
A good sports program can attract people to that district and help house values.
I was a Levittown employee.

renovations are one thing - but why does he need a private bathroom (use the one everyone else does) and his own washer and dryer - doesnt he wear suits? those get dry cleaned

Re: School Budget vote -
There is absolutely no need for those amenities. It's disgusting, plain and simple.
Where I work the low man on the totem pole and the president of the company all use the same bathroom. We all manage just fine. Amazing, isn't it?
