Re: Semen Analysis - Would your husband do it?
My DH went as soon as our RE suggested it. It wasn't something he was happy about but he's watched me go thru much more invasive procedures, bloodwork, etc.. and felt it was the least he could do. Some DHs don't feel comfortable doing 'that' there. We were able to go to the andrology lab at the hospital and get a specific condom and container and just BD normally at home and then bring the sample in within an hour.

Yes he has done it twice without hesitation. We have a common goal, and that is to have a child. We would both do anything to make that happen.

I had no idea that you can use a special condom to collect him "swimmer".
I told DH that more than likely he will have to give a sample. He is so uncomfortable with the idea of having to do that there. He doesn't even really like to do that at home. Of course he was going to do it because it's for the greater good but at least now we know that we have other options. Thanks for posting.

Re: Semen Analysis - Would your husband do it?
As soon as we realized we were having issues getting PG, my OB ordered the SA, HSG and hormone bloodwork. DH had NO problem going to give his sample. There was no way I was going on meds before knowing what our problems were. Turns out, we were dealing with severe male factor infertility. Yes, it was a huge blow to the ego and sure he felt guilty about (still does to this day). But once we knew what we were dealing with we were able to take action against it. I don't think you ever really know how you will react to a situation until you are in it. Trust me, I had no idea!!

Re: Semen Analysis - Would your husband do it?
Yikes, your friend's DH sounds like he is living in 1955. Pretty ignorant of him to assume he has no role, responsibility or issues in this.
With that said, DH and I have talked about the what ifs...What if we get to 6 or more cycles with no BFP? He was the first to suggest that the issue might lie with him, while I was speculating it might be me.

Without a doubt - just asked him and he said he would. I don't get why anyone who really wants a child wouldn't?

Posted by ttc I'm just not sure how far I'm willing to go.
I think until you are truly faced with IF issues it is difficult to say just how far you're willing to go to have a baby.
I think as humans, sometimes we're not truly aware of just exactly what we're capable of until we have to do it.
Being 8 months in, and having to face these questions now, i feel confident in saying that i'm not sure how far i'm willing to go. I don't think that having an exact diagnosis would change that. It's an extremely emotional investment to make, to decide to take that path, and i think i know enough to know that i'm just not sure if i can invest myself into it. I understand where you're coming from, but i don't think that everyone who has IF issues necessarily takes every length possible to conceive.
I understand what you're saying and you certainly know yourself best.
Ironically, the intention of my reply was not of "you don't know what you're talking about" but more of a "you can do it!" kind of post.
I hope I didn't come off offensive.

Yeah, it's pretty sad, but there are guys out there like that. Like I said earlier, I think in this case they're both immature (clearly her DH is).
I can only hope that eventually he would change his mind.

Re: Semen Analysis - Would your husband do it?
We had one done right out of the gate. It just gave us peace of mind to know that we were only deal with issues on my end.
I think it's SOOOO important, especially when you're running into unexpected problems.

Re: Semen Analysis - Would your husband do it?
Mine already did...he figured it would be best to rule out problems on his end first..he was concerned due to his age (41) it could possibly be an issue, also It is good that I already have this info for next month when I make an RE appointment...
